Remote Animation Studio information

How do remote animation studios typically coordinate teamwork and maintain creative collaboration across different locations?

Remote animation studios usually rely on a combination of cloud-based project management tools, video conferencing, and real-time collaboration software to coordinate teamwork. Artists, animators, and production staff often meet virtually for daily or weekly check-ins, share feedback through annotated reviews, and use shared asset libraries to ensure everyone is working with the latest files. This setup allows for flexibility, but also requires strong communication skills and self-motivation to keep projects on track. Many studios also host virtual brainstorming sessions or social events to foster a sense of team spirit and creative synergy, despite the physical distance.

Remote Animation Studios are comprehensive entities offering a range of animation services, often employing multiple animators. Remote Character Animators focus specifically on bringing characters to life through individual or team work. While both roles require animation skills and software proficiency, studios emphasize project management and collaboration, whereas character animators concentrate on character-specific tasks.

What is a remote animation studio?

A remote animation studio is a company or team that creates animated content while working from different locations rather than a centralized office. Artists, animators, writers, and producers collaborate virtually using digital tools to produce films, series, advertisements, or games. This setup allows studios to tap into global talent, offer flexible work arrangements, and often reduce overhead costs. Communication, project management, and file sharing are handled through online platforms to ensure smooth collaboration and timely project delivery.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a remote animation studio, and why are they important?

To excel in a remote animation studio, you need expertise in animation principles, strong artistic abilities, and experience with industry-standard software like Adobe After Effects and Autodesk Maya, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with collaborative platforms such as Slack, ShotGrid, and cloud-based asset management systems is also essential. Excellent communication, time management, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote teamwork and meeting deadlines. These competencies ensure that high-quality animation projects are delivered efficiently while maintaining effective collaboration despite the physical distance.

At ARRISE, we know a thing or two about making great games. From concept to execution, we combine creativity with technical excellence to shape the future of player engagement, driving our business and industry forward.
Our teams plan, prepare, and produce every title in a packed multi-product roadmap, having created over 1,800 slots to date. Game artists, developers, mathematicians, sound technicians, product marketers, regulatory experts, and other stakeholders from across the business all work together on delivering new player favorites at scale and pace.
ARRISE USA represents our growing footprint in one of the world’s most dynamic tech and entertainment markets. With a remote team of product experts, we’re tapping into American talent to drive the next generation of iGaming innovation.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re building a brand-new, US-based, fully remote game studio developing new slot games, and we’re looking for an experienced Game Designer to drive the vision for our games.
In this role, you’ll collaborate with a small multidisciplinary team to lead the creation of new games from the ground up with a strong focus on delivering standout themes and high-performing mechanics.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
  • Define and deliver the overall game vision, including game mechanics, play style, and theme
  • Collaborate closely with mathematicians, artists, animators, and sound designers to bring your game to life
  • Playtest and iterate on your game’s math, mechanics, game flow, and visual presentation with an eye toward creating the best player experience possible
  • Produce and maintain clear design documentation for your game
  • Collaborate with other game designers to provide gameplay feedback and recommendations for improvement on each other’s games
  • Regularly play competitors’ games in the iGaming and land-based spaces to stay abreast of industry trends and new mechanics
WHAT WE ASK OF YOU
  • 5+ years of experience designing real-money slot games for iGaming or land-based markets
  • Degree in Mathematics, Game Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written communication skills, especially the ability to clearly communicate complex and creative concepts to stakeholders across the globe
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging game mechanics, and player expectations
  • Familiarity with wireframing software such as Figma or Balsamiq
  • You should:
    • Be able to move comfortably between strategic and detailed levels
    • Bring strong organization and structure to a fast-moving environment
    • Be extremely creative, designing experiences that are intuitive and fun
    • Obsess over detail and refinement
    • Provide, accept, and act on feedback constructively
