The FRAML Specialist is responsible for reviewing and dispositioning fraud and AML alerts, responding to fraud reports and internal requests, assisting members with unauthorized activity concerns, preparing Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs), supporting OFAC reviews and enhanced due diligence efforts, and taking appropriate protective actions to mitigate risk. This position requires strong analytical abilities, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering exceptional member service while safeguarding the organization from financial crime.

This role will have a fully remote schedule but will need to work a schedule in line with our Pacific Time Zone operating hours. All necessary equipment is provided by the Credit Union. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FRAML SPECIALIST

  • Review and triage assigned fraud and AML alerts by analyzing account activity, researching transactional behavior, documenting findings, and determining the appropriate disposition based on established procedures.
  • Respond to member-reported fraud cases and internal fraud referrals received through calls, tickets, and other reporting channels.
  • Work directly with members and employees to verify suspicious activity, gather information, answer questions, and resolve routine fraud-related concerns.
  • Take authorized protective actions to mitigate potential losses, including restricting compromised accounts, securing payment channels, and implementing appropriate account controls.
  • Prepare accurate and timely Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) and support ongoing BSA/AML compliance activities.
  • Perform OFAC reviews, enhanced due diligence support, and other compliance-related research as assigned.
  • Document investigations, decisions, actions taken, and escalation recommendations in accordance with departmental procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify potential fraud trends, unusual account activity, and financial crime red flags, escalating matters requiring additional investigation.
  • Collaborate with team members, business units, and financial institutions to support fraud prevention and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Contribute to process improvements that enhance fraud detection, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation activities.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR FRAML SPECIALIST

  • 1+ years of prior financial institution experience in a role involving the identification, investigation, or escalation of unusual, suspicious, or potentially fraudulent activity.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to identify financial crime red flags and analyze account and transaction activity to determine appropriate action.
  • Experience applying established procedures, documenting investigative findings, and making sound decisions within delegated authority.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with members, employees, and external partners.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly learn multiple banking, fraud, and compliance systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Previous experience supporting fraud investigations, AML reviews, OFAC processes, CTR preparation, or financial crimes operations is preferred.

WHAT MAKES YOU SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE

  • You are naturally curious and enjoy researching unusual activity to understand the full story behind transactions and alerts.
  • You balance member service with risk management and understand the importance of protecting both our members and the Credit Union.
  • You remain organized while managing competing priorities and changing workloads.
  • You are proactive, adaptable, and willing to learn new regulations, systems, and investigative techniques.
