Job description

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking an executive leader for the role of Vice President (VP) for the Maritime business area. This position is pivotal to the company’s growth and success, and is accountable for the overall performance of the business, including strategy, financial results, program execution, customer satisfaction, talent development, and expansion within existing and adjacent markets.  The VP reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and manages a more than $100M Business Area as a Profit and Loss center.  This role leads all activities required to deliver successful outcomes for current customers while identifying opportunities to expand the company’s presence within established customer relationships and closely related mission areas.  This role partners with business development in establishing new customer relationship and executing a strategy for white space.  The ideal candidate will embody both strategic and hands-on leadership, with proven experience in the Maritime community and a passion for guiding high-performing technical teams. 


P&L Ownership

  • Own full business area financial performance, including revenue, profit, cash flow, and indirect spending.
  • Develop and execute annual goal plans aligned to corporate objectives.
  • Forecast business performance and proactively manage risks and opportunities.
  • Drive margin improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Achieve annual financial and operational performance targets.

 

Customer Leadership & Adjacent Growth

  • Serve as the executive relationship owner for key customers within the business area.
  • Maintain deep understanding of customer priorities, mission challenges, and future funding opportunities.
  • Drive organic growth within existing customer accounts.
  • Identify and pursue adjacent opportunities that leverage existing customer relationships, contract vehicles, capabilities, or mission knowledge.
  • Partner with Enterprise Growth on capture activities and strategic pursuits.
  • Provide market insight and customer intelligence to inform enterprise growth priorities.
  • Serve as executive sponsor for priority recompetes, task orders, and expansion opportunities within the business area.

 

Program Delivery & Customer Success

  • Ensure successful execution of all programs within the business area. 
  • Maintain accountability for contract performance, schedule, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead resolution of significant program risks and escalations.
  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure program teams consistently meet customer expectations and contractual commitments.

 

Talent & Organization Leadership

  • Build and develop a high-performing leadership team.
  • Lead succession planning and workforce development activities.
  • Drive employee engagement, retention, and performance.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and mission focus.
  • Ensure organizational structures support business objectives.

 

Enterprise Leadership

  • Participate as a member of the executive leadership team.
  • Collaborate across business areas to maximize enterprise performance.
  • Support implementation of enterprise initiatives and operating models.
  • Champion a One Company mindset and enterprise-first decision making.
  • Share resources, capabilities, and best practices across business areas.

 

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and maintain a multi-year strategic plan for the Maritime business area in alignment with the Company Vision and strategic direction
  • Translate strategic objectives into actionable plans, effectively communicating these plans and guiding their execution across the organization.
  • Monitor customer priorities, budget trends, competitive activity, and market conditions.
  • Recommend investments in talent, capabilities, and infrastructure.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen customer relationships and expand market presence within adjacent mission areas.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 10+ years of experience running multiple projects and US Navy Programs within a DoD environment
  • Hands-on experience with key US Navy organizations (e.g.,NAVSEA, Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Division Carderock, PEO IWS.) and advanced technology domains.
  • Proven DoD business leadership experience, including business finance, profit and loss management, and business growth.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, including capture, proposal development, and winning new work.
  • Strong track record building and managing high-performing, technical, and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with executive and senior leadership, effectively communicate at all levels, and mentor emerging leaders.
  • Excellent client management, business partnership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience interpreting and applying government/industry standards, laws, and corporate policies to program execution.
  • TS/SCI security clearance required

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $200,000.00/Yr. - USD $300,000/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
