What is a remote agronomist?

A Remote Agronomist is an agricultural expert who provides consulting and support services to farmers, agribusinesses, or research institutions from a remote location. They analyze soil health, crop performance, and environmental data using digital tools and technology. Their responsibilities may include making recommendations for soil management, pest control, and irrigation strategies. By utilizing remote sensing, satellite imagery, and virtual communication, they help optimize crop yields and sustainability without being physically present in the field.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a remote agronomist?

A Remote Agronomist typically analyzes satellite or drone imagery, soil data, and weather patterns to assess crop health and productivity from a distance. You’ll provide virtual consultations to farmers and agricultural businesses, prepare detailed reports, and make science-based recommendations to improve yields and sustainability. The role often involves coordinating with on-site field staff, participating in video meetings, and staying updated on the latest agronomic research. Effective time management and clear remote communication are key, as you juggle multiple clients and projects across different regions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote agronomist?

To thrive as a Remote Agronomist, you need solid expertise in crop science, soil analysis, and plant health, typically supported by a degree in agronomy or a related agricultural field. Familiarity with remote sensing technology, geographic information systems (GIS), farm management software, and sometimes certifications such as Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) are commonly required. Strong analytical skills, effective remote communication, and the ability to translate data-driven recommendations into practical advice make candidates stand out. These skills are essential to provide actionable, science-based guidance to clients while collaborating efficiently from a distance.

WE ARE MINDFUL, ORIGINAL, & BOLD
And we are transforming the future of agriculture. At Phospholutions, our mission is simple.  We are enhancing the efficiency of global phosphorus use. Phospholutions, Inc. is an award-winning and venture-backed agtech start-up company enhancing global phosphorus use. We believe the global food system requires better solutions for sustainable production and responsible phosphorus management. Through our proprietary RhizoSorb® technology, we help growers improve fertilizer efficiency, support plant health and reduce the environmental impact. As demand for sustainable agricultural solutions continue to grow, we’re looking for passionate, results-driven professionals to help expand our impact across North America.
We\'re looking for a Key Account Manager who is ready to do more than manage accounts. We need a strategic commercial leader who can build executive relationships, drive enterprise adoption, and help transform how agricultural retailers and growers approach phosphorus efficiency. This is not a traditional sales role. You\'ll serve as the commercial owner of assigned strategic accounts, developing long-term growth strategies, building executive-level partnerships, and driving adoption of innovative agricultural technology across large retail and enterprise customers
If you\'re energized by complex sales, strategic partnerships, and the opportunity to influence the future of agriculture, this could be the career-defining opportunity you\'ve been looking for.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Develop and execute multi-year growth plans for assigned strategic accounts.
  • Drive revenue growth through increased product adoption, market penetration, and account expansion.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior leaders, commercial decision-makers, procurement teams, and agronomy leadership.
  • Lead complex sales cycles from evaluation and field validation through commercial adoption and long-term commitments.
  • Negotiate pricing, commercial agreements, and strategic partnerships.
  • Collaborate with Technical Agronomy, Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, and Executive Leadership to achieve customer and business objectives.
  • Convert trials, demonstrations, and grower demand into scalable commercial opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate forecasts, pipelines, account plans, and commercialization strategies.
  • Represent Phospholutions at customer meetings, industry events, training programs, and trade shows.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Business, Marketing, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in agricultural sales, key account management, strategic account management, or commercial leadership
  • Experience managing large agricultural retailers, cooperatives, distribution networks, or enterprise accounts
  • Proven success leading complex sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders and executive decision-makers
  • Experience using CRM platforms and Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
  • A valid driver\'s license, maintain reliable transportation, and be able to travel independently throughout the assigned territory
Preferred Experience
  • Fertilizer, crop nutrition, biologicals, specialty agriculture, or agricultural input sales
  • Commercialization of new agricultural technologies or products
  • Agronomy, nutrient management, phosphorus fertility, or crop protection knowledge
  • Negotiating strategic partnerships and multi-year commercial agreements
  • Leading retailer adoption programs, field validation efforts, and commercialization initiatives
  You are:
  • A strategic thinker with a strong ownership mentality
  • Results-driven and accountable
  • Skilled at building executive-level relationships
  • An exceptional communicator and presenter
  • Commercially and financially savvy
  • Comfortable navigating complex organizations
  • Highly collaborative and able to influence across teams without direct authority

LOCATION & TRAVEL
This is a remote-based position within the assigned territory.
Preference will be given to candidates located in key agricultural markets throughout the Midwest and Pacific Northwest, including states such as Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Michigan.
This is a highly customer-facing role requiring approximately 50-75% travel to include customer meetings, field activities, industry events, and business development opportunities.
COMPENSATION
$130,000 - $150,000 base salary, commensurate with experience, plus incentive opportunity and benefits package.
WHY JOIN PHOSPHOLUTIONS?
At Phospholutions, you\'ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the future of agriculture while helping customers improve productivity and sustainability. You\'ll join an innovative, mission-driven team committed to advancing the efficiency of phosphorus use globally and bringing breakthrough solutions to growers and agricultural retailers.
HOW TO APPLY
To be considered for this role, candidates must complete the application questions and submit a resume through our online Applicant Tracking System (ATS). To apply, please visit our Careers page: https://www.phospholutions.com/careers
To maintain a fair and equitable hiring process, only applications received through the ATS will be reviewed and considered. Resumes submitted directly to company staff members or to company email addresses outside of the ATS process will not be reviewed or considered for this position.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport product samples, demonstration materials, event supplies, and other business-related material weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during customer meetings, trade shows, conferences, training events, field evaluation, and other customer facing activities
