What is remote administration?

Remote administration refers to the process of managing and maintaining computer systems, networks, or servers from a location different from where the systems are physically housed. This is typically achieved using specialized software or remote access tools that allow administrators to monitor, troubleshoot, and update systems securely over the internet. Remote administration is widely used in IT support, system management, and cloud computing environments to increase efficiency and reduce the need for on-site presence. It helps businesses ensure their systems remain operational and secure, even if IT staff cannot be physically present.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote administrator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Administrator, you need strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, typically supported by experience in office administration or a related field. Familiarity with cloud-based collaboration tools, virtual meeting platforms, and project management software is essential, and certifications such as Microsoft Office Specialist can be beneficial. Proactive time management, adaptability, and the ability to work independently are crucial soft skills for succeeding in a remote environment. These skills ensure efficient workflow, seamless virtual collaboration, and reliable support for distributed teams.

What are some common challenges faced by remote administrators, and how can they be addressed?

Remote administrators often encounter challenges such as maintaining clear communication across different time zones, staying organized without in-person supervision, and ensuring data security while accessing systems remotely. To address these, it's important to utilize collaboration tools, establish regular check-ins with team members, and follow best practices for secure remote access. Developing strong self-management habits and proactively seeking feedback can also help remote administrators stay aligned with team goals and expectations.

Full-time

Job description

Position: Sr. Allvue Developer
Location- Hartford, CT- NYC- or Remote
Salary-$180,000
Core platform skills

  • Deep configuration expertise in the Allvue models, including Portfolio, Research, and Trade Order Management; Compliance; Portfolio Monitoring and Analytics; and Fund, Investment, and Corporate Accounting. This is not just usage, but hands-on system setup: workflows, report templates, user roles/permissions, and data mapping between modules.
  • SQL proficiency (T-SQL) for report writing, troubleshooting data discrepancies, and validating output before it hits accounting or investor-facing deliverables. This person should be able to query the underlying data model independently rather than always going back to Allvue support.
  • Working knowledge of how Allvue's reporting/BI layer connects to downstream systems such as GL, investment accounting, and actuarial feeds.

Vendor liaison skills

  • Experience being the primary point of contact with Allvue, someone who's sat across the table from Allvue support/client success/product teams, escalated issues, and pushed roadmap requests.
  • Comfort managing Allvue's release cycle and upgrade process on your end: testing new releases, coordinating UAT with business users, flagging what breaks.
  • Ability to translate business pain points into a concrete Allvue configuration change or a documented enhancement request to the vendor.

Domain/operational knowledge

  • Fund and investment accounting fluency across a number of investments including private equity, debt, and credit; CLOs, and fixed income and equities.
  • Given your dual-entity structure, someone who understands where the asset management platform's outputs need to reconcile with the carrier's statutory/GAAP reporting is a real differentiator, even though it's not a typical Allvue job requirement.

Experience

  • 8-15 years in fund administration/operations with significant Allvue exposure
  • 5-10 years experience in vendor relationship management
  • Demonstrated experience in API/integration design connecting Allvue to other internal systems
  • Understanding of ETL/data pipeline patterns
  • Experience with version control, CI/CD, and testing practices
  • Demonstrated ability to document code and data flows to audit-ready standard
