Remote Actuarial Science Internship information

What is a remote actuarial science internship?

A Remote Actuarial Science Internship is a temporary, often paid, work experience that allows students or recent graduates to gain practical knowledge in actuarial science while working from a remote location. Interns typically assist professional actuaries with data analysis, risk assessment, and financial modeling tasks using specialized software. These internships provide valuable exposure to real-world actuarial work, often in industries like insurance, finance, or consulting, while allowing for flexible work arrangements. Remote internships help interns build technical and communication skills, network with professionals, and explore potential career paths in the actuarial field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote actuarial science intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Actuarial Science Intern, you need strong mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills, often supported by progress toward an actuarial degree and passing preliminary actuarial exams. Familiarity with actuarial software, Excel, programming languages like Python or R, and data analysis tools is typically required. Exceptional problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective written and verbal communication are vital soft skills in this role. These competencies enable interns to accurately analyze risk, produce reliable models, and contribute effectively to remote teams.

What are some common challenges faced during a remote actuarial science internship, and how can I overcome them?

Remote actuarial science internships often require interns to manage their time efficiently and communicate proactively, as you won't have in-person supervision. Interns may find it challenging to ask questions or gain clarity on complex actuarial concepts without face-to-face interactions. To overcome these challenges, schedule regular check-ins with your supervisor, utilize collaboration tools effectively, and actively participate in virtual team meetings. Additionally, make use of online actuarial communities and resources to supplement your learning and stay connected.

What is the Sophomore Actuarial Career Discovery Program?

College Sophomores have the unique opportunity to connect with an advisor working in the actuarial field at Aon to learn more about a consulting career from one of our solutions team from either Health, Wealth, Risk, or Reinsurance and practice real-world scenarios during the discovery program.

How this opportunity is different

This mentorship opportunity gives students considering a career in actuarial science to connect with professionals and peers throughout this virtual program. This program is designed for sophomores and used as a direct pipeline to our Summer 2028 Actuarial Intern opportunities!

At the end of the program, selected mentees will have the opportunity to be fast-tracked to a final round interview for consideration for our intern program. While the mentor program is virtual, candidates would select location preferences that are aligned with their interests for Summer 2028 internship opportunities.

Program Dates: January 2027 - April 2027
