What is a remote accounts payable job?

Remote accounts payable jobs involve processing, tracking, and managing a company's outgoing payments to vendors and suppliers, all performed from a remote location. Employees in these roles handle tasks such as invoice verification, payment processing, and maintaining financial records using online accounting systems. Working remotely allows accounts payable professionals to collaborate with teams and vendors through digital communication tools, ensuring timely and accurate payments while maintaining compliance with company policies.

What is a remote accounts payable job?

Remote accounts payable jobs include traditional titles such as accounts payable analyst, auditing clerk, accounts payable lead, and accounts payable specialist. However, these jobs are done remotely from home or another environment out of the office. All of these jobs have their own specific duties, but their responsibilities often overlap and typically entail reviewing invoice, budget, and expense statements to determine what short-term financial obligations a company has to various creditors and then ensuring that these obligations are paid off. These obligations may include payroll, invoices from vendors or service providers, or rent. Accounts payable jobs are similar to accounts receivable jobs, but instead of invoicing others, you pay off invoices and ensure an account balance remains in good standing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote accounts payable professional, and why are they important?

A Remote Accounts Payable professional needs strong attention to detail, foundational accounting knowledge, and experience with invoice processing, often backed by an associate's degree in accounting or related field. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle, and proficiency in Excel are typically required. Excellent organizational skills, time management, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for excelling in a remote environment. These competencies ensure accurate financial records, timely payments, and effective collaboration with vendors and team members, which are vital for organizational efficiency and compliance.

How do remote accounts payable professionals typically collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely payments?

Remote Accounts Payable professionals often coordinate closely with procurement, finance, and operations teams using digital tools such as email, shared document platforms, and accounting software. They frequently communicate to verify invoice details, resolve discrepancies, and confirm approvals before processing payments. Maintaining clear, proactive communication is essential to avoid delays and ensure compliance with company policies. This collaborative approach helps foster a smooth workflow despite the remote nature of the role.

Overview

We are seeking an IT Solution Architect to own and evolve the architecture supporting enterprise data warehousing, batch processing, and consolidated reporting. This role combines solution architecture with hands-on troubleshooting, legacy data analysis, and ongoing support of high-visibility data products. The architect will translate business requirements into technical roadmaps and implementation patterns while helping advance data modernization efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, maintain, optimize, and support data warehouse solutions used for enterprise reporting.
  • Trace, extract, and manipulate data across legacy manufacturing and business systems.
  • Integrate data from ordering, invoicing, production, shipping, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and related sources.
  • Transform data from disparate systems into consistent warehouse structures for downstream reporting and analytics.
  • Support master data systems used for commercial reporting.
  • Monitor batch jobs and data movement, troubleshoot failures, and intervene to maintain timely and accurate processing.
  • Help ensure reliable data processing during critical reporting periods, including financial month-end close.
  • Translate business requirements into solution architectures, technical roadmaps, and implementation patterns.
  • Define technical direction and architectural standards for product, delivery, and managed service provider teams.
  • Collaborate on user stories, solution designs, system integration plans, testing strategies, deployment plans, and release activities.
  • Evaluate technology trends and product performance while managing architectural risk, quality, security, and compliance.
  • Align solutions with enterprise and platform architecture standards.
  • Coach developers and engineers while serving as a technical expert for supported data products.
  • Create and communicate technical specifications, solution design documentation, and stakeholder presentations.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Typically 510 years of IT experience, with most experience concentrated in data platforms, architecture, or a closely related technical area.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience tracing, extracting, transforming, and troubleshooting data across complex or legacy systems.
  • Experience with relational database platforms and SQL-based data extraction.
  • Hands-on knowledge of dimensional modeling, data warehousing, data normalization and denormalization, and schema access.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT orchestration, batch processing, data interfaces, and scheduled processing.
  • Working knowledge of DDL, DML, DQL, and TCL commands.
  • Experience developing or supporting stored procedures and other code-based data-processing components.
  • Ability to independently investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex data problems using fact-based analysis.
  • Experience supporting business-critical data products while contributing to modernization initiatives.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into solution designs, architecture patterns, and technical roadmaps.
  • Experience creating technical specifications, system integration plans, testing and quality plans, deployment plans, and change or release documentation.
  • Knowledge of Agile and waterfall delivery methodologies and related platforms such as Azure DevOps.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across business stakeholders, data stewards, architects, developers, engineers, product teams, and external delivery partners.
  • Ability to work effectively in an evolving, unstructured environment and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to learn and support newer data platforms, including Microsoft Fabric.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Oracle databases and Oracle backend environments.
  • Experience with Oracle SQL*Loader, PL/SQL, packages, stored procedures, and triggers.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL extraction sources.
  • Experience with Windows scripting, including VBScript and batch scripts.
  • Experience managing scheduled tasks, file server storage, and server or file-directory processes.
