Tax Accounting Manager!

This is a visible leadership opportunity for a CPA who is a credible tax reviewer and people leader and enjoys solving problems, sharing knowledge, and staying involved in the work. You want the opportunity to make a broader impact than your title alone suggests. As a hands-on leader in our firm, you will help shape the development of junior staff while contributing to the firm’s commitment to excellence, inclusion, and innovation. You will have the reach to influence tax quality, workflow, staff development, and client service while helping shape what comes next for our practice.

Location: This position will be hybrid and can be based in one of our offices in: Durham, NC. Columbus, GA or Atlanta, GA

What you will do: 

  • Review complex federal, state, and multi-state tax returns and related work for individuals, C-corp, S-corp, partnerships, fiduciaries, nonprofit organizations, and franchise filings.
  • Lead tax planning and prepare or review projections for individual and corporate estimated tax liabilities.
  • Manage engagements, workflows, deadlines, deliverables, and client communications with a strong focus on quality and responsiveness.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, anticipating tax and business issues and identifying planning opportunities.
  • Delegate work thoughtfully, review staff deliverables, resolve technical questions, and coach team members to strengthen judgment and capability.
  • Collaborate across offices and service lines, sharing expertise and helping align priorities, processes, and client service standard
  • Serve as a leader in tax software, processes, workflow, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate with clients and taxing authorities regarding tax matters, notices, inquiries, and related issues.
  • Contribute to consulting and special projects and support business development through prospective client meetings, needs assessment, fee quotes, and proposals.

What you bring:

  • Active CPA license.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, or a related degree with appropriate tax and intermediate accounting coursework.
  • At least five years of progressive tax and accounting experience in public accounting or a comparable environment.
  • At least two years of experience reviewing tax returns and financial statement work.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engagements, manage competing deadlines, communicate with clients, and develop staff.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation and planning software such as CCH Tax or UltraTax.
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks or comparable accounting software is preferred.
  • Experience with financial statement preparation or Client Accounting Services is valuable.
