Job description

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Engineering Manager - Access & Control Platform in Netherlands.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of critical platform infrastructure focused on secure access, authentication, authorization, and governance systems used at global scale. The role combines technical leadership with people management, offering the chance to shape foundational services that directly impact platform reliability, scalability, and security. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to define technical standards, improve engineering practices, and drive strategic initiatives across the organization. The environment is highly collaborative, fast-paced, and innovation-driven, with a strong emphasis on ownership, continuous learning, and engineering excellence. This position is ideal for a hands-on leader who enjoys solving complex backend and infrastructure challenges while mentoring and growing high-performing engineering teams in a remote-first international setting.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing engineering team responsible for core access and control capabilities, including authentication, authorization, identity management, and rate limiting systems.
  • Drive the architectural direction, scalability, reliability, and long-term technical health of foundational platform services.
  • Contribute hands-on to system design, code reviews, and technical problem-solving to support team execution and delivery.
  • Establish clear priorities, ensure predictable execution, and monitor measurable outcomes across engineering initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with product, security, and engineering stakeholders to align platform standards, integrations, and governance practices.
  • Promote engineering excellence by improving development processes, raising quality standards, and supporting operational reliability.
  • Recruit, coach, and support engineers while fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and growth-oriented team culture.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in an Engineering Manager or Team Lead role.
  • Strong technical expertise in backend development with hands-on experience in Node.js and TypeScript; familiarity with NestJS is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of Identity & Access Management concepts such as OAuth2/OIDC, RBAC/ABAC, session management, MFA, or WebAuthn.
  • Experience designing and operating governance systems related to rate limiting, quotas, usage control, or request shaping.
  • Solid knowledge of cloud-native infrastructure and DevOps practices, including AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and observability tooling.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Terraform, Helm, SNS/SQS, Prometheus, Grafana, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder alignment, and decision-making skills with a pragmatic and ownership-driven mindset.
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and build scalable foundational systems in fast-paced environments.
Benefits:
  • Fully remote work opportunity within Europe, with optional access to modern offices and co-working spaces across multiple locations.
  • Flexible working hours with a late-start option to support work-life balance.
  • Private health insurance after the probation period.
  • Additional paid leave dedicated to personal well-being and celebrations.
  • Learning and professional development budget to support continuous growth.
  • Access to mentorship programs, internal meetups, and hackathons.
  • International, inclusive, and collaborative work environment with regular team-building events.
  • Employee discounts on company products and personalized merchandise options.
  • Apple MacBook provided as standard work equipment.
  • Opportunity to work on large-scale systems with global impact alongside experienced engineering professionals.
