What We Look For In a Photography Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of camera operation including aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, composition principles, lighting techniques, digital editing with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, color theory, photographic genres, and visual storytelling. Ability to explain exposure triangle, depth of field control, and post-processing workflow while preparing students for photography courses, portfolio development, and creative careers.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching camera controls, compositional design, and editing techniques for photography. Guides students through manual exposure settings, applying rule of thirds and leading lines, working with natural and artificial light, editing RAW files, and developing cohesive photo series. Emphasizes developing a personal photographic eye and connects photography to journalism, fine art, commercial work, and social media content creation.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with photography curricula and common challenges such as understanding manual exposure, achieving sharp focus, and developing consistent editing style. Adapts instruction using camera operation practice, photo assignment projects, and editing tutorials to support students from smartphone photography beginners through advanced DSLR users developing professional portfolios and visual storytelling skills.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
