Remote 2D Character Artist information

What is a remote 2D character artist?

A Remote 2D Character Artist is a professional who designs and illustrates characters for video games, animation, comics, or other digital media while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. They use digital art tools to create character concepts, turnarounds, and final artwork, often collaborating with other team members online. Their work helps define the visual style and personality of characters, making them integral to storytelling and user experience in various creative projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote 2D character artist?

To thrive as a Remote 2D Character Artist, you need strong drawing skills, a solid understanding of anatomy, character design principles, and proficiency in digital illustration—often demonstrated through a compelling portfolio. Familiarity with industry-standard software like Adobe Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, or Procreate is essential, and knowledge of pipelines or version control (e.g., Trello, Asana) is often beneficial. Creativity, self-motivation, and excellent communication skills help you stand out, especially when collaborating with remote teams. These skills are vital for delivering high-quality, original artwork on schedule and effectively collaborating with clients or team members across different locations.
