Position Summary

Capital Waste Services is seeking a highly dependable HQ Relief Driver to provide operational support and route coverage across our locations throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. This position serves as a critical resource for the organization, filling in during driver shortages, vacations, leaves, peak service periods, new contract startups, and other operational needs.

The ideal candidate is a safe, professional CDL driver who enjoys travelling, adapts quickly to new environments, and is committed to delivering exceptional service while supporting teams across multiple locations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operate collection vehicles in accordance with company policies, DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
  • Provide route coverage and operational support at Capital Waste Services locations throughout the Southeast region.
  • Perform residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal waste collection duties as assigned.
  • Operate multiple truck types, including Front End Loaders, Automated Side Loaders, Rear Loaders, Roll-Off Trucks, and other specialized equipment as needed.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete all required documentation.
  • Maintain accurate route information, vehicle inspection records, and service documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, mechanics, and local operations teams.
  • Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining a professional appearance and attitude.
  • Report safety concerns, accidents, incidents, or equipment issues immediately.
  • Assist with training, mentoring, or operational support when assigned.
  • Comply with all company safety, environmental, and operational policies.

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to meet insurability requirements.
  • Ability to pass DOT drug screening, physical, and background screening requirements.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including occasional weekends and holidays as business needs require.
  • Strong safety mindset and commitment to operational excellence.

Preferred

  • Waste industry, transportation, construction, utility, or heavy equipment operating experience.
  • Experience operating multiple vehicle types.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and vehicle inspection requirements.

Travel Requirements

This position requires extensive travel (up to 100%) throughout the Capital Waste Services operating region, including:

  • South Carolina
  • North Carolina
  • Georgia
  • Tennessee
  • Florida

Company-paid travel accommodations, transportation, and approved business expenses will be provided in accordance with company policy.

Education, Training, Experience and Licensing/Certification Requirements:

  • Previous experience with Front-End Load, Roll-Off, Rear-Load, Automated Side-Load (ASL) (Preferred)
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) (desired)
  • Possess valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Prior waste industry driving experience (Preferred)
  • Two (2) years of satisfactory driving experience of Class A or B vehicles (Required)
  • Satisfactory MVR (Motor Vehicle Driving Record)
  • Must pass a DOT physical, drug screen and criminal background check
