How much do reliability engineer fmea jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 7, 2026, the average yearly pay for reliability engineer fmea in the United States is $117,973.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $102,500.00 and $129,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How does a Reliability Engineer specializing in FMEA typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve product reliability?

A Reliability Engineer with expertise in FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) frequently works alongside design, manufacturing, and quality teams to proactively identify potential failure points in products or processes. They lead FMEA sessions, facilitate discussions to uncover possible risks, and help prioritize corrective actions. This collaborative approach ensures that reliability considerations are integrated early in the development cycle, leading to more robust products and fewer costly failures post-launch. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as the engineer translates technical findings into actionable improvements across departments.

What is the difference between Reliability Engineer Fmea vs Maintenance Engineer?

AspectReliability Engineer FmeaMaintenance Engineer
CertificationsReliability Engineering, FMEA trainingMaintenance certifications, HVAC, electrical, or mechanical licenses
Work EnvironmentDesign, analysis, and improvement of systems and processesHands-on equipment repair and preventive maintenance
Industry UsageManufacturing, aerospace, automotive, energyManufacturing, facilities, industrial plants

Reliability Engineer Fmea focuses on analyzing and improving system reliability through FMEA methods, while Maintenance Engineers handle equipment upkeep and repairs. Both roles are essential in manufacturing industries but differ in scope and daily tasks.

What does a Reliability Engineer FMEA do?

A Reliability Engineer specializing in FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) is responsible for identifying potential failure modes in products or processes and assessing their impact on safety, performance, and reliability. They systematically analyze where and how a system might fail and develop strategies to mitigate these risks. Their work helps improve product quality, reduce downtime, and enhance customer satisfaction by proactively addressing potential issues before they occur.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Reliability Engineer specializing in FMEA, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Reliability Engineer specializing in FMEA, you need a solid background in engineering principles, statistical analysis, and experience with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, often supported by a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with reliability modeling software, FMEA tools, and certifications like Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting findings. These skills ensure the identification and mitigation of potential failures, ultimately improving product reliability and safety.
