Seasonal
JOB TITLE: Ski & Ride Instructor
DIVISION: Ski and Ride School
REPORTS TO: Ski and Ride Supervisor
LOCATION: Ski & Ride School building / On-mountain
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time / Part-Time / Temporary/ Seasonal
RATE: $20 - $35
Priority consideration will be given to former employees during the initial phase of this recruitment process. External applications will be retained for future consideration.
POSITION:
Solitude is seeking passionate and confident Ski and Snowboard instructors for our upcoming winter season. This position involves teaching individuals and groups new skills and techniques to help them have fun and improve. Instructors provide participating guests with alpine skiing and snowboarding lessons emphasizing safety, fun, and learning. In addition to an hourly base rate, this role is eligible for incentives that can substantially increase take home pay. Instructors who hold certifications through PSIA/AASI (or equivalent international body) earn greater hourly rates and increased work opportunities. We offer exceptional in-house training and development as well as exam reimbursement for instructors who achieve higher certification within the season.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Own and maintain contemporary skiing and snowboarding equipment including a helmet.
  • Attend all required training including orientations, on snow instructor training, and online modules assigned through workday.
  • Be aware of scheduled shifts and maintain good attendance for all work assignments.
  • Communicate proactively with direct supervisors, administrators, and leadership team.
  • Be aware of and follow all resort and department policies/procedures.
  • Provide participating guests with lesson experiences that consistently exceed expectations.
  • Identify and facilitate guests' needs through observation and communication.
  • Work with counterparts and leadership to address guest experience issues.
  • Seek out and participate in educational opportunities that enhance your product.
  • Be a positive and professional ambassador of Solitude and Ski & Ride School.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and posture at all times.
  • Maintain accurate class records.
  • Complete guest progress reports and solicit feedback.
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping for work assignments.
  • Complete other department tasks as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS FOR NON-CERTIFIED INSTRUCTORS: Starting at $20 per hour
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Consistently make skidded parallel turns on blue groomed runs (ski instructors)
  • Consistently link skidded turns on blue groomed runs (snowboard)
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills: ability to create trusting relationships with a variety of ages and personalities
  • Willingness to work with children from the age of 3 - 13
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a mountain environment with changing weather conditions for up to 7 hours per day
  • Ability to work with little supervision after daily assignments are made
  • Assist in preparation of learning areas.
  • Assist with the registration process and checkout; Assist with lunchtime duties

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR LEVEL I INSTRUCTOR: Starting at $23.56 per hour
  • Strong understanding of the educational concepts relative to teaching first timer through beginner students.
  • Current PSIA/AASI Level 1 Certification or equivalent
  • Capable of confident, controlled skiing or riding on green and blue terrain

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR LEVEL II INSTRUCTOR: Starting at $26.78 per hour
  • Strong understanding of the educational concepts relative to teaching first timer through intermediate students.
  • Current PSIA/AASI Level 2 Certification or equivalent
  • Capable of competent, versatile skiing or riding on black diamond terrain and in variable snow conditions
  • Expected to mentor and help train newer staff members, support guest retention efforts, and contribute to building a base of returning clients

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR LEVEL III INSTRUCTOR: Starting at $30.90 per hour
  • Strong understanding of the educational concepts relative to teaching first timer through advanced/expert students.
  • Current PSIA/AASI Level 3 Certification or equivalent
  • Capable of dynamic, high-level performance on double black diamond and extreme terrain, as well as in freestyle and terrain park settings
  • Expected to mentor and train other staff members, actively drive business, and grow and retain a base of returning clients
