Job description

Some of what you will do:

The Category Sales Specialist is responsible for pursuing and growing lines of business in the Mid-Market customer base beyond traditional office supplies (Business Essentials). The Category Sales Specialist serves as the new leader generator for assigned Growth Categories within their assigned region looking for net new accounts and working in collaboration with the Mid Market Sales team to value-added sales opportunities within our existing customer base.  As a by-product of this responsibility, the Category Sales Specialist will have or acquire a mid to high level of subject matter expertise which will be used in consultation with existing and prospective customers for the purpose of new business growth in this line of business.

Specifically, You Will:

  • Consistently achieve revenue and gross margin targets through a proactive selling strategy of negotiating on behalf of Staples and or their assigned Dealer Brands to be the primary supplier of assigned Growth Category Supplies/Services to companies in the assigned territory.
  • Develop a high value-add relationship with key contacts in existing account base to grow sales.
  • Researches, qualifies, negotiates and presents appropriate assigned Category solutions to acquire new business.
  • Prospects and pursues new, non-category customer opportunities on behalf of all brands in the assigned territory. 
  • Lead the implementation of newly acquired business, ensuring seamless integration of products and services for clients. This includes account set-up, coordinating logistics, delivery timelines, and post-sale support and may include minor installations on site for equipment ex. Dispensers and dispensing units.  
  • Develop and execute implementation plans for newly sold category solutions, including customizing offerings and addressing any client-specific challenges to drive customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews to ensure solutions are delivering as promised, working with the customer and internal teams to resolve any issues and adjust the offering as necessary.
  • Regularly update Salesforce.com and other CRM tools to track implementation progress and ensure clear communication of milestones and issues to all stakeholders.
  • Tracking and management all opportunities via Salesforce.com and other CRM or Sales Enablement tools to ensure that all program requirements are met during the selling, implementation and maintenance phases.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Valid class 5 Driver License + Car
  • Living in Winnipeg area
  • B2B experience preferred
  • Self-starter results oriented.
  • Strong financial acumen.
  • Demonstrated analytical, negotiating, and problem-solving skills.
  • 3-5 years of a demonstrated successful track record in new business development including cold calling and leading discovery meetings, solution presentations and solution implementation.
