Rehabilitation Technician - RWJBarnabas Health
At RWJBarnabas Health, the Rehabilitation Technician plays an important role in supporting rehabilitation services and enhancing the patient experience. Working alongside physical and occupational therapists, they assist with patient care, scheduling, departmental operations, and maintaining a safe, organized treatment environment. This role helps ensure patients receive timely, compassionate, and high-quality rehabilitative care throughout their recovery journey.
A typical day for a Rehabilitation Technician may include:
  • Assists with scheduling outpatient physical and occupational therapy appointments and coordinating referrals
  • Greets and welcomes patients, families, and visitors while providing exceptional customer service
  • Organizes and manages physician orders using electronic rehabilitation documentation systems
  • Answers phones, prioritizes inquiries, and communicates important information to rehabilitation staff
  • Supports front desk operations and administrative workflow within the rehabilitation department
  • Assists rehabilitation professionals with patient care activities within established regulatory guidelines
  • Takes and documents patient vital signs as directed by the therapist
  • Helps manage patient flow by coordinating schedules with nursing staff, therapists, and volunteers
  • Assists with patient transfers, treatment room setup and breakdown, and preparation of therapy equipment
  • Supports rehabilitation group activities, including Joint Institute programming, patient education, and volunteer coordination
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe treatment environment by following infection prevention, safety, and environmental standards
  • Reports safety concerns, completes routine environmental checks, and assists with emergency preparedness activities

To be considered for this Rehabilitation Technician opportunity:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in a rehabilitation, healthcare, or patient care setting preferred
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills required
  • Ability to safely assist with patient mobility and rehabilitation activities under the direction of licensed therapists
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to work with electronic scheduling and documentation systems required
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining a patient-centered approach
