Position SummaryThe Certified Trauma Registrar is responsible for collecting, validating, analyzing, and reporting trauma-related data for a Level I Trauma Center. This role ensures complete, accurate, and timely entry of trauma cases into the NTRACS trauma registry and supports regulatory, accreditation, and performance improvement needs. The ideal candidate has strong experience with EPIC EMR, NTRACS trauma registry systems, and remote workflow management.
Key ResponsibilitiesCase Identification & Abstraction
Identify trauma cases from EPIC EMR and other clinical systems in alignment with ACS (American College of Surgeons) and state trauma criteria.
Abstract detailed clinical data from prehospital, ED, OR, inpatient, and rehab records.
Enter data into NTRACS following national Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) definitions and Trauma Registry Data Dictionary standards.
Data Quality & Compliance
Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and compliance with ACS verification standards, state reporting requirements, and internal quality benchmarks.
Conduct routine data validation and participate in inter-rater reliability audits.
Assist with TQIP submissions, state trauma registry submissions, and ACS verification documentation.
Performance Improvement Support
Collaborate with Trauma Program leadership to provide data for quality initiatives, case reviews, and multidisciplinary performance improvement processes.
Generate reports for stakeholders, including trauma surgeons, nurse leaders, and hospital administration.
Collaboration & Communication
Work with clinical teams, EMS partners, and trauma program staff to clarify documentation and ensure data integrity.
Attend trauma registry and PI meetings (virtual) as required.

Required QualificationsCertification:
Experience:
Minimum 2–5 years of trauma registry experience in a Level I Trauma Center (Level II acceptable with strong experience).
Demonstrated proficiency with NTRACS Trauma Registry.
Strong working knowledge of EPIC EMR.
Experience working in a remote registry environment with proven productivity.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with trauma scoring (AIS, ISS, TRISS), ICD-10 coding, and TQIP criteria.
Strong understanding of ACS-COT standards and trauma center accreditation requirements.
Advanced Excel skills and ability to generate analytical reports.
Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, Public Health, or related field preferred.
Equivalent experience may be considered.
