Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) serves as a vital healthcare professional responsible for overseeing and directing nursing care within the cath lab and interventional radiology departments. A proactive and enthusiastic approach is essential to contribute to the success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

Core Duties and Performance Metrics (% of time)

1) Assessment (20%)

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments for new admissions or transfers upon arrival to the PACU.
  • Accurately document patient assessments.
  • Perform timely ongoing reassessments, noting significant observations.
2) Planning (10%)

Responsibilities:

  • Identify patient care needs based on initial assessment data, diagnoses, and physician orders.
  • Develop nursing interventions aimed at achieving desired patient outcomes.
  • Create and implement individualized care plans.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to coordinate daily care plans for assigned patients.
3) Implementation (30%)

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and document patient care in collaboration with other disciplines.
  • Provide patient education and discharge planning, accurately recorded on the PACU flow sheet.
  • Review and execute physician orders promptly and accurately.
  • Recognize changes in patient conditions and take appropriate nursing actions.
  • Follow medication and parenteral therapy administration protocols as per guidelines.
  • Perform blood draws for lab specimens, including blood cultures.
  • Notify anesthesia and surgical teams of significant patient condition changes.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and examinations related to patient care.
4) Evaluation (10%)

Responsibilities:

  • Document the effectiveness of nursing care and adjust care plans as patients progress.
  • Evaluate and document the effectiveness of patient education, including understanding levels.
  • Modify care plans as necessary based on evaluations.
  • Assess the effectiveness of pain management and take appropriate nursing actions.
5) Professional Development (10%)

Responsibilities:

  • Engage in ongoing learning to enhance professional skills, including:
    • Committee participation
    • Staff meetings
    • Mandatory training and educational programs
    • Self and peer performance evaluations to identify strengths and areas for improvement
  • Maintain punctuality and begin duties promptly at the start of shifts.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues, patients, families, and medical staff.
  • Identify issues, gather relevant data, propose solutions, and communicate effectively to resolve problems.
  • Supervise care provided by Care Partners.
  • Incorporate customer service standards into patient care and work practices.
6) Safety and Infection Control (5%)

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to safety and infection control policies, including universal precautions and proper waste disposal.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff.
  • Report any risk management concerns.
  • Complete all annual mandatory training requirements.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safety.
7) Service Excellence (10%)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely, high-quality care in a respectful manner.
  • Demonstrate care and courtesy by:
    • Offering prompt and respectful service.
    • Addressing the physical, spiritual, psychological, and emotional needs of patients and families.
