Job description

The Community Health Center of Niagara, is searching for Medical Assistants to join our team. The Medical Assistant performs clerical and clinical functions that assist in the provision of care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Physician.

Previous experience as a Medical Assistant, HHA, PCA or CNA preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
General:
  • Adheres to agency policies and procedures regarding confidentiality
  • Participates in quality improvement activities
  • Communicates effectively with patients and staff
  • Maintains a professional manner in interacting with patients and staff
  • Adheres to infection control principles
  • Participates in and contributes to Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance activities and functions as needed.

Specific:
  • Maintains clean, safe, orderly work environment
  • Performs clerical duties to maintain efficient patient flow
  • Prepares patients for examinations and procedures
  • Prepares rooms for examinations and procedures
  • Assists providers with examinations and procedures
  • Performs routine diagnostic tests
  • Collects and processes specimens
  • Maintains supplies for patient rooms
  • Maintains equipment according to agency policy
  • Maintains the integrity of the medical record
  • Maintains documentation in logs as appropriate
  • Provides patient education
  • Recognizes emergency situations and notifies appropriate personnel
  • Regular attendance is required
  • Attends meetings as required
  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned or requested

Physical Demands: Requires periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping. Evening work may be required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma. Nursing or Medical Assistant Diploma. Three (3) years� experience. Computer literacy. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications:
High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma. Certified Nursing or Medical Assistant diploma. Five (5) years� experience in an ambulatory setting. Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants. Computer literacy. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistant.
