Job description

Patient Access Clerk - Patient Registration - PRN

McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center is your community medical provider, serving the Willamette Valley and its residents. Our 113-bed hospital offers inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic, medical, surgical and emergency care. We are a family of caregivers offering care to our larger family — our community. Position Details:

  • Hourly Base Rate: $21.38 - $27.21 + 10% resource differential
  • Shift: Variable - 12 hour shift
  • Hours Per Week: 12
  • SEIU Local 49 represented position

Job Summary:

  • Under immediate supervision of the Lead Patient Access Clerk performs a variety of registration, admission, public relations, financial and medical service functions.
  • Performs interviews for the purpose of initiating accounts.
  • Evaluates information to determine appropriate flow of patient type, hospital service code, diagnosis, tests and procedures needed, medical necessity and priority.
  • Determines appropriate documentation and form requirements based on medical and financial indicators.
  • Secures information to assure rapid reimbursement.
  • Initiates collection activity by requesting co-payments, deposits and anticipated balance due.
  • Provides education to patients related to medical necessity requirements.
  • Receives and documents acceptance of cash, checks, credit card payments as well as patient valuables.
  • Acts as a liaison between the patient, visitors and others and of treatment authorization.
  • Provides information and answers questions about consent for treatment, assignment of benefits, acceptance of financial responsibility, release of records, patient rights and responsibilities and advanced directives.
  • Maintains required documentation including patient medical records, logs and schedules, written and electronic. Identifies, responds and announces all code phone and wall alarm activation.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Typing 40+ wpm. Proficient computer skills.
  • Medical terminology strongly preferred.
  • Experience in medical setting preferred.
