What is a regional delivery driver?

Regional Delivery Drivers are professional drivers responsible for transporting goods within a specific geographic region, typically covering distances that allow for same-day or next-day deliveries. They operate large vehicles like box trucks or tractor-trailers, loading and unloading cargo at multiple locations such as warehouses, stores, or customer sites. Unlike long-haul drivers, regional drivers generally have more predictable routes and schedules, often returning home several times a week. Their role is critical in ensuring timely and efficient delivery of products, maintaining accurate logs, and complying with safety regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a regional delivery driver?

To thrive as a Regional Delivery Driver, you need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), a clean driving record, and knowledge of safe vehicle operation and route planning. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and freight handling equipment is typically required. Strong time management, customer service, and problem-solving skills help drivers effectively handle schedules and interact with clients. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring timely, safe deliveries and maintaining customer satisfaction across various routes.

What are some common challenges faced by regional delivery drivers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Regional Delivery Drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating unfamiliar routes, managing tight delivery schedules, and adapting to changing weather or traffic conditions. Effective time management, use of GPS technology, and proactive communication with dispatchers can help address these issues. Building strong organizational skills and remaining adaptable are key to ensuring timely deliveries and maintaining customer satisfaction.

Are you looking for a driving career that offers both stability and a sense of community? At Scotlynn, we're more than just a transportation company-we're a family-oriented business dedicated to leading the way in temperature-controlled transportation. We pride ourselves on our state-of-the-art equipment and our dependable, efficient drivers. If you're ready to be part of a team that values excellence and camaraderie, we want to hear from you!
Position: Company Driver
Location: Auburndale, FL
As a Regional Delivery Driver with Scotlynn, you'll be at the heart of our operations, transporting pre-packaged school lunches throughout the region. Enjoy a regular Monday through Friday schedule.
Additionally, you will be supporting our customers in the Jacksonville, Miami, and Tampa area (with an overnight run at least once a week).
What You'll Do:
  • Drive with Pride: Operate reefers and box trucks, 36/48ft trailers with lift gates and 53ft trailers with swing doors.
  • Load and Unload: Use a manual or electric pallet jack and/or hand truck to move products efficiently, with no bump and dock work.
  • Keep It Moving: Record and maintain your driving hours in a logbook, and stay in touch with our dispatcher for route instructions and updates.
  • Ensure Safety: Inspect your trailer before pick-up and after delivery, keeping detailed records of any defects. Follow all traffic laws and safety procedures to protect both yourself and the commodities you're transporting.
  • Maintain Quality: Keep your truck and equipment clean and in top condition. Verify load details and ensure secure transport of goods.
  • Document Details: Review bills of lading (BOLs) and load documents for accuracy. Obtain necessary seals, receipts, and signatures for delivered goods.
  • Must be willing to complete occasional overnight runs.
What We Offer:
  • Competitive Pay: We value your hard work and offer a competitive salary (we pay by the mile and a supplemental pay for total loads delivered).
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Enjoy medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, along with a 401k program to help you plan for your future.
Requirements
What We Need from You:
  • CDL-A License: A current and valid Class CDL-A license is required.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of driving experience and recent professional driving experience within the last year.
  • DOT Certification: A current, unexpired DOT Medical Certificate.
