Job description

Mission
The Refrigeration Manager is responsible for overseeing and participating in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and industrial ammonia refrigeration systems. This role combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, including managing technicians, coordinating projects, ensuring safety compliance, controlling costs, and maintaining high service standards. The manager actively works alongside the team while providing guidance, training, and operational support.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, supervise, and mentor refrigeration technicians and apprentices.
  • Perform hands-on installation, maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of ammonia refrigeration and HVAC systems.
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee preventative maintenance programs by working closely with CMMS coordinator.
  • Troubleshoot complex refrigeration system issues and provide technical support to the team.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
  • Manage work orders, service schedules, labor allocation, and project timelines.
  • Coordinate with customers, vendors, contractors, and internal departments.
  • Monitor inventory levels and order equipment, parts, and supplies as needed.
  • Conduct quality inspections to ensure work meets company and industry standards.
  • Train and develop team members on technical skills, safety procedures, and best practices.
  • Assist with budgeting, cost control, and departmental performance metrics.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and critical equipment failures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This position has been identified as holding responsibility for food safety and quality of the company. This responsibility extends over all shifts.
  • During absence, the following position serves as coverage to this position: Director Operations.  
Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in commercial and industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience in ammonia refrigeration.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration controls, compressors, condensers, evaporators, and related equipment.
  • EPA certification and other applicable licenses or certifications.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform physical work in a hands-on management role.
