HVAC Maintenance Technician I

COMPENSATION: $25-$35 per hour, plus opportunity for performance incentives

Position Type: Full-time, hourly position eligible for overtime and commission/bonuses

Job Summary:

The HVAC Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing and maintaining HVAC systems, basic troubleshooting and calibrating equipment, and ensuring all systems operate efficiently and in compliance with safety standards. You will play a critical role in the successful Maintenance of new and existing HVAC equipment, ensuring everything is running up to HWE standards.

Essential Functions:

  1. Preventive Maintenance and System Start-Up:
    1. Arrive at job sites on time and perform system cleaning, removing dust, debris, and blockages from HVAC units.
    2. Conduct testing of HVAC systems to ensure they are operating efficiently and identify any issues.
    3. Perform system start-up and calibration for newly installed HVAC equipment (air conditioning, heating, boilers, et), ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications.
  2. System Testing, Troubleshooting, and Commissioning:
    1. Conduct comprehensive system tests to confirm proper operation and adherence to local codes and manufacturer specs.
    2. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with HVAC units, using diagnostic tools to pinpoint problems in electrical and mechanical components.
    3. Commission the system, ensuring all components, including controls, are properly integrated and functioning for optimal comfort and efficiency.
  3. Customer Communication and Documentation:
    1. Explain system operation, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps to customers, addressing any questions or concerns.
    2. Document service activities thoroughly, including performance checks, equipment settings, and any repairs or adjustments made.
    3. Update system documentation to ensure it remains accurate for future reference and maintenance.
  4. Collaboration and Safety Compliance:
    1. Collaborate with installation teams, project managers, and customer service to ensure efficient and successful project completion.
    2. Follow safety guidelines and company policies to maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others.
    3. Provide input on process improvements or any operational challenges that may arise during work.
  5. Perform additional tasks as required.
  6. Shadowing junior technicians, providing feedback, and job specific training.

Education & Experience:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited HVAC training program or apprenticeship is preferred.
  • EPA 608 Certification (for refrigerant handling) is required.
  • NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification is a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience in HVAC with a focus on system start-up, commissioning, or installation.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC equipment, systems, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with tools and diagnostic equipment used for HVAC start-ups and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration principles.
  • Problem-Solving to think critically and troubleshoot issues to achieve optimal system performance.
  • Communication skills with both team members and clients, capable of explaining technical issues and solutions in simple terms.
  • Strong attention to detail in completing service orders, documentation, and system inspections.
  • Requires proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.

Work Environment:

Customer settings: This position is based in customer settings and will require work in and out of doors, including in attics, basements, small-confined spaces, and rooftops.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend, crawl, or kneel in confined spaces. The employee may be required to lift up to 60 pounds, and must be able to climb ladders, enter crawl spaces, stand on roofs, and move up and down stairs safely.
  • This job may require travel in a personal or company-provided vehicle.
