A Refraction Ophthalmic Tech is a healthcare professional who assists ophthalmologists by performing eye examinations, specifically focusing on measuring a patient’s refractive error to determine their prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses. They use specialized instruments, such as a phoropter and autorefractor, to assess how light is focused by the eye. In addition to refraction tests, they may also prepare patients for exams, collect medical histories, and assist with other diagnostic procedures. Their work ensures accurate prescriptions and supports the overall eye care process.
