SUMMARY
  • The purpose of this position is to train, coach, and lead the members of the operations and maintenance functions of the Utilities Department to safely perform required tasks, meet plant objectives, and develop and follow standard work practices.
  • The objectives of this position are:
  • Create a team that is well trained in all facets of the Utilities operations, works together to accomplish its goals, and rewards hard work and a team first attitude.
  • Be the operational expert on all equipment, procedures, and work practices in the Utilities department.
  • Help create and maintain standard work practices that are efficient, able to be carried out, and create the desired results consistently.
  • Develop future leaders for the plant from the Utilities team.

FUNCTIONS
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
  • Ensures environmental and safety compliance of Power Plant operation by all parties.
  • Reviews daily operations of Power Plant.
  • Works with Training Coordinator to develop and implement training plan for refinery associates. Identifies required job tasks for refinery positions.
  • Writes process descriptions, procedures, and other related training information.
  • Interfaces with maintenance personnel to prioritize maintenance work.
  • Ensures compliance with all company policies.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Understands process and shift constraints, suggest changes in process and use of equipment to increase efficiency of refinery
  • Writes SOPs and assists with writing training plans.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting, analyzing, correcting, and creating long term corrections for all problems that occur on equipment associated with the Utilities department.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness/Five S of the area assigned. Reviews MSS and signs off
  • Analyzes and resolves process problems, assists and train workers in troubleshooting.
  • Reviews daily instructions and communicates important information to other associates. Responsible for communicating the production plan to operators
  • Reviews lab data on a timely basis to ensure process is running efficiently.
  • Records process information in logs and data sheets.
  • Writes summary reports.
  • Communicates down time, boiler trips, startup timelines and other significant production issues to refinery management, technical staff, and maintenance.
  • Develops work schedules to meet work requirements.
  • Completes SAP requirements for employees' timecards.
  • Responsible for auditing operators' documents (logbooks, round sheets, and other checklists) to verify completion.
  • Responsible for notifying the Quality Control department in the event of a food safety/quality issue.
  • Responsible for covering/supervising the refinery during weekends and absences of other supervisory personnel.
  • Responsible for covering shift if necessary.
  • Ensures all maintenance work requested is entered into the CMMS system, reviews back logs in CMMS, and works with Utilities Manager and planners to develop maintenance schedules.
  • Supports TPM and maintenance initiatives. Interfaces with planners and schedulers
  • Lead confined space entries, hot work, and other permitted processes in the Utilities area.

Experience

  • Three to five years related operational/maintenance experience

  • Related experience in a supervisory role with direct reports

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)
The following are the basic qualifications:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry, and physics.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Power Point, Microsoft Outlook, and Excel Spreadsheet software.
  • Highly developed human relations skills required to direct staff
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The associate must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The associate is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The associate is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
