Job description

Basic Function
HF Sinclair in El Dorado, KS is seeking a self-driven Safety & Industrial Hygiene Professional to help strengthen our safety performance and build long-term capability within our refinery. In this role, you will partner with Operations, Maintenance, Projects, and leadership to identify risks, implement effective safeguards, and support a proactive safety culture rooted in Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) principle
Job Duties
  • Collaborate with employees at all levels to build EHS capability and integrate the HF Sinclair Goal ZERO vision throughout the facility.
  • Lead or support incident investigations, focusing on learning, system improvement, and reducing recurrence.
  • Conduct field safety observations, job safety analyses, and compliance reviews.
  • Support safety programs including LOTO, Confined Space, Hot Work, Respiratory Protection, Hazard Communication, etc.
  • Perform risk assessments, procedure reviews, participate in MOC reviews, and management system evaluations to enhance safety performance.
  • Recommend and evaluate engineering, administrative, and PPE controls to minimize exposure risks.
  • Create safety communications for shift meetings, bulletins, training, and engagement efforts for safety and IH topics.
  • Perform exposure assessments for chemical, physical, and biological hazards during routine operations and turnaround work.
  • Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring, including air sampling, noise dosimetry, heat stress, air quality investigations, and emergency response air monitoring.
  • Maintain exposure records, databases, and IH documentation to meet regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Maintain IH equipment, calibration records, and associated software systems.
  • Analyze safety and IH metrics to identify trends and inform improvement strategies.
  • Engage employees and contractors to promote ownership of safety and encourage reporting, participation, and continuous improvement.
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
Experience
Five years experience working in a refinery or related oil and gas industry field are required. Hands-on IH experience (sampling, exposure assessment, monitoring equipment). Strong understanding of OSHA 1910 and refinery safety requirements.
Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree required or the equivalent years of experience in lieu of the degree (four years in addition to the experience requirement) are required.  
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Professional certifications: CSP, CIH, ASP, OHST.
  • Experience with HOP principles.
  • Experience with PSM-covered processes.
Required Skills
The Health & Safety Specialist must demonstrate the following skills: Collaborative behaviors, self-motivation, interpersonal, and open communication skills. Positive attitude and willingness to support the Health, Safety, and Emergency Response team. Demonstrate calmness and courage in emergency events. This position is expected to demonstrate a high level of honesty, integrity and follow the chain of command in the performance of their duties. 5+ years experience in Plant Production, Maintenance TA, Projects, Safety, or associated Technical Field. Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
May lead and direct the work of others from time-to-time.
Work Conditions
Office based, field based and, with travel up to 30% of the time by land or air is required. Petroleum refinery, and out-of-door environments, including, but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks and rotating equipment, fumes or airborne particles and loud noises and vibrations. Required to work in all temperatures including outdoors and confined spaces. Subject to varying road and weather conditions.
