Job description

Basic Function
Puget Sound Refinery, located in Anacortes, Washington is currently seeking a Flare and Relief Specialist. This role conducts engineering duties for an assigned Engineering discipline and functions as a technical specialist, formulating and developing advanced engineering concepts.
Job Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Lead a Team of Contract Engineers in performing both assurance and design for flare and relief studies
  • Identify overpressure/underpressure scenarios and perform calculations, including relief device sizing
  • Coordinate Unit flare and relief assurance reviews and develop /update / manage documentation
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to solve technical challenges.
  • Provide technical assurance to site change management activities, operating procedures and maintenance and turnaround activities.

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of seven years of experience in process engineering or related roles.  An understanding of the refinery process and the elements of process safety is required.

Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline is required.
Required Skills
  • Proficiency in fundamental Chemical Engineering Skills (Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Kinetics, Thermodynamics, Mass Transfer, etc.)
  • Proficiency in identification of overpressure/underpressure scenarios
  • Working knowledge of relevant sections of ASME VIII, ASME XIII, API Standards 520/521/537
  • Knowledge of refinery operations

Preffered Skills:

  • Working knowledge in engineering software is preferred
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
May be responsible for the supervision of personnel as well as contractors.
Work Conditions
Office and plant based with up to 15% travel required. Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.

This position has a salary minimum of $94,800.00, midpoint of $129,900.00, and maximum of $165,000.00.
