Job description

PROJECT CONTROLS SPECIALIST

Location: Mobile, Alabama
Reports To: Project Controls Manager / Project Manager
Job Summary
The Project Controls Specialist supports project planning, scheduling, cost management, and reporting functions to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. This role works closely with project managers, engineering, procurement, and construction teams to track progress, identify risks, and maintain accurate project data throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
  • Track project costs, forecasts, and budgets; perform variance analysis against baseline plans.
  • Support earned value management (EVM), including calculating cost and schedule performance indices.
  • Develop and maintain the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in coordination with project leadership.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, dashboards, and KPI summaries for internal and client stakeholders.
  • Monitor project risks and support the development of mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Coordinate change management processes, including tracking and documenting scope, cost, and schedule changes.
  • Collaborate with procurement and construction teams to align material and labor forecasts with the schedule.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and support audits or internal reviews as needed.
  • Assist with cash flow forecasting and cost trending analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in project controls, scheduling, or cost engineering within an EPC, industrial, or construction environment.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, or Microsoft Project, and SAP 
  • Working knowledge of cost engineering principles, EVM, and forecasting methods.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, procurement, and construction teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in [oil & gas/power / marine / heavy industrial] project environments.
  • AACE certification (CCP, PSP, EVP) or PMP certification.
  • Familiarity with client cost/schedule systems (e.g., SAP, Ecosys, or similar).

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to work on-site as required; some roles may allow hybrid or remote flexibility.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional site walks may require the use of standard PPE.
