Job description

The prospective employee will provide phlebotomy services as delineated below for the inmate population at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Edgefield, South Carolina.
Pay: $22.13 per hour.

Schedule:
  • The work schedule shall not exceed an estimated 32 hours per week. The weekly schedule will normally consist of 4, 8-hour days, Monday through Thursday (except Federal holidays). Times shall be scheduled between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

Description of Responsibilities:
  • All duties shall be performed in accordance with the standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Phlebotomy Services and in compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations.
  • Assist the Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurse with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring the patient's vital signs and weight and scanning laboratory results in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
  • Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection and process within the Health Service Unit, to include A&O in-processing, DNA per procedure, vaccine programs and PPD updates.
  • Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the contract or BOP Reference Lab and document per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures.
  • Ensure that lab requests are completed properly and all reports are returned from the contract lab, provider notified, log results in as received, follow up appropriately, and file/scan results in lab and medical record.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory
  • Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
  • Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) or his/her designee in the coordination of BOP and Contract Reference Lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of equipment and notification of needed supplies.
  • Assist the HSA and Clinical Director with writing and implementing policies that deal with the Laboratory Program.
  • Complete and scan into BEMR the Medical Treatment Refusal forms for any inmate that wishes to refuse laboratory testing ordered by Clinical Staff.

Academic, Experience and or Special Qualifications Required:
  • The Phlebotomist must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • The Phlebotomist must provide proof of experience with specimen collection, packaging and shipment to referral laboratories with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records.
  • The Phlebotomist shall provide a resume and requested documentation along with copy of all diplomas and/or certificates to support stated qualification.
