Job description

Rees Broome, PC—consistently recognized as a Top 20 Law Firm in Virginia—is seeking a dedicated Associate Attorney with 2–4 years of general collections or litigation experience to join our thriving Community Association practice group.

In this role, you will represent community associations and HOAs, managing a high-volume collections and covenant enforcement caseload. We take pride in actively investing in our associates’ professional growth, offering structured mentorship, competitive compensation, and a collaborative environment.

Note: Must be actively licensed to practice law in Maryland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Caseload Management: Independently manage a caseload of 250–400 active collections cases from initial intake through file closure.
  • Court Appearances: Regularly appear in district courts across multiple jurisdictions for collections and covenant abatement/enforcement hearings.
  • Client & Board Advising: Routinely communicate with community association clients and property managers; attend on-site HOA/Board meetings to oversee elections and proceedings.
  • Legal Drafting & Analysis: Review and interpret governing documents, contracts, and financial records; draft formal legal opinions for Shareholder review.
  • Team Collaboration: Partner closely with and help manage paralegals, administrative staff, and Shareholders to ensure seamless case execution.
  • Billing & Timekeeping: Manage hourly time entry as well as task-based billing codes for fixed-fee collections work.

Qualifications & Ideal Experience

  • Licensure: Admitted to the Maryland Bar (Required); dual VA/MD licensure is a strong plus.
  • Experience: 2–4 years of experience practicing general collections work (for banks, HOAs, or other creditors) or civil litigation.
  • Subject Matter Knowledge: Working knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), district court procedures, and post-judgment enforcement.
  • Skills: Exceptional written and oral communication skills, strong academic credentials, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to multitask, manage high-volume caseloads, and oversee paralegal support staff effectively.

Why Join Rees Broome, PC?

  • Top-Tier Reputation: Work alongside industry-leading shareholders at a Top 20 Virginia law firm.
  • Career Advancement: We actively engage in and support our associates' professional growth and path to advancement.
  • Total Rewards: We offer competitive base compensation, a generous incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits.

To apply, please submit your resume and salary requirements.
