Job description

ROLE TITLE: Director, Social Media
POSITION REPORTS TO: Managing Director, Social Media
PRIORITY APPLICATION DEADLINE: Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at 11:59PM ET
APPLICATION NOTE: As part of the application process for this role, please submit a portfolio or reel that represents your content creation experience - including examples of original content you've filmed, edited, and published. You can link your portfolio within your resume or attach it.

LOCATION: Remote
WHAT YOU'LL DO
We're looking for a Director of Social Media - a creator at heart who can concept, design, shoot, edit, and publish content that stops the scroll and grows our audience. This is a hands-on, make-the-content role for someone who knows what makes a still design or video work to engage and excite an audience. You'll turn big ideas into platform-native content, stay ahead of trends, and use performance data to keep making the work sharper. You'll partner closely with our Managing Director of Social Media to bring our channel strategy to life every day.
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
  • Design and produce original content - from concept to published post - across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, and emerging platforms (both static and video)
  • Film original content, including on-camera and behind-the-scenes video, both self-shot and on location
  • Edit video into polished, platform-native content optimized for each channel's format and audience
  • Monitor social and cultural trends daily, identifying which moments are right for the brand to enter - and which aren't
  • Pull, track, and interpret performance data to inform what content to create, continue, or retire
  • Partner with the Managing Director of Social Media to execute channel strategy and hit growth and engagement goals
  • Maintain a consistent publishing cadence and own the day-to-day content calendar
  • Write scroll-stopping copy and captions in a platform-native, brand-aligned voice
  • Engage with the community - responding to comments, sparking conversation, and building audience relationships
  • Manage light production logistics: sourcing talent or corps members to feature, scheduling shoots, and organizing footage
  • Collaborate with the design team to adapt content across formats
  • Stay ahead of platform changes, new tools, and content formats, bringing fresh ideas proactively

A WEEK IN THE LIFE
Monday
  • Review weekend performance and flag what's resonating
  • Join a team sync to align on the week's content priorities
  • Scan trends and cultural moments; pitch timely content ideas

Tuesday
  • Film original content - self-shot, on location, or with featured talent
  • Draft captions and shot lists for upcoming posts
  • Coordinate with the MD of Social on the week's calendar

Wednesday
  • Edit and finalize video for publishing
  • Schedule and publish content across platforms
  • Engage with the community in comments and DMs
  • Design original posts that are visually striking and on brand

Thursday
  • Produce reactive/trend-driven content while the moment is live
  • Collaborate with design on larger campaign assets
  • Review in-progress work with the MD of Social

Friday
  • Pull weekly performance data and extract insights
  • Share learnings and recommend adjustments for next week
  • Organize footage and plan upcoming shoots

YOUR EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 4+ years creating social content, with a portfolio or reel of original work you've filmed and edited (show us your illustrative and design chops!)
  • Hands-on video production and editing skills (e.g., CapCut, Premiere, or equivalent), shooting on both phone and camera
  • Deep fluency in social platforms, formats, and what performs on each - especially short-form video
  • A strong understanding of internet culture and Gen Z audiences, with the instinct to know which trends fit the brand
  • Proven track record growing engagement and following on at least one channel
  • Strong copywriting and storytelling instincts in a platform-native voice
  • Comfort pulling and interpreting performance data to guide content decisions
  • Excellent organization and the ability to manage multiple posts and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable both in front of and behind the camera

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience being on camera as a host or creator
  • Experience with community management and creator/influencer partnerships
  • Personal experience as a content creator with a growing audience
  • Background or passion for design work

YOUR FUTURE TEAM
The Marketing Team's purpose is to build a differentiated brand presence that surpasses benchmarks set by other prominent national nonprofits, illuminates our mission and impact to diverse audiences, creates understanding, and fosters deeper connections to TFA. Our unique role is to develop and execute cutting-edge marketing campaigns that accelerate the growth flywheel - propelling prospects, corps members, Ignite fellows, and alumni to take action, and ultimately inspiring them to become lifelong advocates. Our marketing strategies will ignite new levels of engagement with broader audiences, fueling a movement that resonates with the hearts and minds of donors, partners, supporters, and the general public.
YOUR COMPENSATION
