Job description

Video Editor (Contract)
Location: Washington, D.C. (Hybrid/Remote options available)
About History Factory
At History Factory, we believe a company's story is its greatest asset. For more than 45 years, we've partnered with the world's most admired Fortune 500 companies to transform their heritage and institutional memory into powerful brand performance. We aren't just looking for someone to push buttons on a timeline. We want a visual storyteller
-a filmmaker at heart-to join our creative agency team. Together, we'll dive into rich corporate archives, unearth the "golden nuggets" of brand history, and shape them into groundbreaking, cinematic video content (ranging from
social stings to high-end docuseries) that elevates our clients' stories in the modern marketplace.

The Role
As a Contract Video Editor and Motion Designer, you will collaborate with our cross-functional team of designers, writers, and archivists to bring historic and modern narratives to life. Your day-to-day will involve:
  • Cinematic Storytelling: Craft compelling short- and long-form videos (brand essence videos, docuseries,
and social campaigns) that seamlessly bridge a client's past with their future promise.
  • Motion Design Skills: Working with HF designers, concept design, and executing cutting-edge motion graphics, title sequences, 2D animations, and visual polish to elevate raw archival footage into premium content.
  • Creative Conception: Act as video consultant during storyboarding phase while translating scripts and storyboards into fully realized visual pieces, delivering concept frames and rough cuts through to final color-graded, audio-mixed masters.
  • Asset Integration: Work hand-in-hand with our creative team to curate, organize, and creatively integrate historical assets, b-roll, and newly captured footage.
  • On-Camera Flex: On occasion, lead the shooting of a variety of interviews or quick social shoots with basic camera setups and audio capture.
Who You Are
  • A Self-Starter & Collaborator: You thrive in a fast-paced agency environment. You don't need hand-holding or heavy art direction to deliver a polished final product, but you love collaborating with other creatives to push a concept further.
  • A Visual Artist: You have a deep understanding of pacing, typography, photography, color theory, and sound design. You know that the right sound effect or color grade can make or break a scene.
  • An Expert Operator: You live and breathe Adobe Creative Cloud and know how to jump fluidly between Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Open to new tools and technologies: Embracing the potential of gen AI to augment the potential of all creatives and a willingness to explore new tools as they become available
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Experience: 3-5+ years of video editing and motion graphics experience, preferably within a creative agency, production house, or fast-paced brand environment.
  • Technical Arsenal: Expert-level mastery of Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects (mandatory), with strong proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • The Technical Extras: Strong working knowledge of professional color grading, audio mixing, and sound design. Familiarity with AI video/animation tools is a major plus.
  • AI Creation Tools: Basic knowledge/experience of Google Veo/Flow, Sora, and/or Kling - or similar video generative platforms.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Film, Video Production, Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
  • Reel Power: A stellar demo reel/portfolio demonstrating a diverse range of editing styles, storytelling capabilities, and motion graphics expertise.

Ready to make history? Please submit your resume along with a link to your current demo reel highlighting your video editing and motion design work.
