Redshift information

What is a Redshift?

A Redshift job typically refers to a task or process involving Amazon Redshift, a cloud-based data warehousing service. This can include roles such as database administrators, data engineers, or analysts who work with Redshift to store, process, and analyze large datasets. Common responsibilities involve writing SQL queries, optimizing performance, managing clusters, and integrating Redshift with data pipelines.

What skills and qualifications are needed for a Redshift position?

To thrive in a Redshift-focused role (such as an Amazon Redshift Database Administrator or Redshift Data Engineer), you need strong expertise in cloud data warehousing, SQL, ETL development, and data modeling, often backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Proficiency with Amazon Web Services (AWS), specifically Redshift, as well as tools like Python, ETL platforms, and related AWS certifications are highly valuable. Effective communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills enable you to translate business needs into scalable data solutions and collaborate with diverse teams. These skills are essential for ensuring data integrity, optimizing performance, and supporting strategic business decisions in a cloud-based data environment.

What challenges do professionals working with Amazon Redshift face, and how can I prepare for them?

Working with Amazon Redshift often involves optimizing large-scale data pipelines, troubleshooting performance bottlenecks, and ensuring data security in a cloud environment. It can be challenging to balance query speed with cost efficiency, especially as data volumes grow rapidly. Familiarity with Redshift best practices—such as schema design, compression techniques, and query optimization—will help you address these issues effectively. Proactively staying updated on AWS feature releases and participating in team knowledge sharing can also make problem-solving more efficient and collaborative.

Does Redshift offer remote positions?

Redshift, as a data warehousing service, does not directly offer remote positions. However, companies that use Redshift for data analytics may have remote job opportunities in data engineering, analysis, or related roles, depending on the employer's policies. Remote work availability varies by organization and role requirements.

Job description

Hi,

Please find the job details below:

Job Title: AWS Java Full Stack Developer/Engineer
Location: Washington, DC

Requirement
Client is seeking a skilled AWS Java Engineer to join a premier client in the D.C./Wilmington area for a high-impact, hybrid role focused on building, modernizing, and automating enterprise backend applications.
This position sits at the intersection of robust Java engineering and cloud-native architecture, demanding a developer who can move seamlessly from core Java/Spring Boot development to AWS cloud deployments (Lambda, Kinesis, DynamoDB).
Operating within an Agile framework, you will support the entire software development lifecycle—from initial requirements and test-driven automation (TDD/BDD) to final cloud operations—helping maintain foundational enterprise systems while actively scaling modern cloud services.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Development & Modernization: Design, develop, and automate scalable backend applications using Java, Spring Boot, and modern AWS cloud-native technologies.
Data & Stream Integration: Build and maintain data pipelines and cloud infrastructure utilizing AWS Lambda, Kinesis, DynamoDB, Aurora, and Redshift.
Full-Lifecycle Engineering: Own all phases of the software development lifecycle, translating business requirements into implementation, testing, and cloud operations.
System Maintenance: Support and maintain existing enterprise J2EE architectures while actively participating in their evolution toward modern cloud environments.
CI/CD & Automation: Drive continuous integration and test automation pipelines using GitHub/GitLab, SonarQube, and JUnit.
Agile Collaboration: Participate actively in Agile methodologies, team sprints, and mandatory in-person Program Increment (PI) Planning events in the D.C. or Wilmington offices.
Qualifications & Technical Requirements
Core Backend Expertise: Strong proficiency in Java coding combined with deep experience in Spring Boot, Hibernate, and object-oriented design patterns.
AWS Cloud Experience: Proven experience building applications leveraging AWS services including Lambda, Kinesis, DynamoDB/Aurora, and Redshift.
Enterprise Java Foundations: Familiarity with traditional J2EE technologies (Servlets, JMS, JDBC, Web Services, MQ, and concurrent programming).
Data & Web Protocols: Hands-on experience working with Oracle/SQL, JSON, XML/XSLT, JAXB, SOAP, and RESTful APIs.
Frontend & Testing: Foundational knowledge of JavaScript frameworks and HTML, alongside excellent skills in writing unit test cases using TDD and BDD methodologies.
Security Literacy: Solid understanding of enterprise security principles, including Role-Based Security (JAAS), HTTPS protocols, and encryption techniques.
