Job description

Job Description
The primary role of the Lead Electrician is to disassemble, assemble, install, test, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices, and other equipment to required specifications meeting or exceeding Redpath and government regulations/standards in surface and underground operations. The Lead Electrician will provide supervision, training, guidance and mentoring to less experienced electricians.
Responsibilities
1. Capable of troubleshooting, diagnostics testing and interpretation, maintenance and repair of: ventilation fans, underground dewater pumps, lighting, electric/hydraulic mobile equipment, PLC and communication equipment, electronics, high voltage and low voltage power and control systems and ground fault monitor systems.
2. Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced mechanics.
3. Ensure that workers are qualified and capable of safely performing assigned work.
4. Assist in the hiring, evaluation, commendation, disciplinary action, and dismissals regarding supervised staff, if applicable.
5. Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath's Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
6. Carry out repairs and maintenance to all underground sub-stations.
7. Must be capable of hanging 4/0 cable overhead.
8. Fabricate electrical panels and other necessary installation of electrical cables.
9. Install electrical apparatus.
10. Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
11. Ensure planned maintenance is carried out as per the maintenance schedule.
12. Ensure that all the spares & tools are available and serviceable.
13. Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations.
14. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned verbally and/or in written form.
15. The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
16. Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.
Minimum Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist other job functions as required.
Qualifications
Education:
1. 4-year related graduation of University, College and/or Trade School preferred.
Work Experience:
1. Minimum 3 years' electrician experience in an underground mining environment.
2. Supervisory and Training experience.
3. Must have excellent organization and time management skills.
4. If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
5. Proficient in the use of computers and associated software.
Knowledge Required:
1. Strong leadership skills.
2. Strong organizational skills.
3. Must be capable of reading & understanding electrical drawings and schematics.
4. Must have a good knowledge and understanding of the applicable electrical code and regulations.
5. Must be capable of reading and interpreting basic electrical instruments and testers.
6. Perform safe and timely emergency repairs to equipment.
7. Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written.
8. NFPA70E certification required (Based on site location).

1. Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening and physical.
2. Ability to build and maintain positive internal and external relationships.
3. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
4. Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
5. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
