If so, join our team, as we are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Research Assistant (RA) to join our close-knit team at Detroit Recovery Project.

Detroit Recovery Project, Inc. (DRP) is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) that provides outpatient recovery support services for those with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. We treat the whole person through our integrated programs of primary medical and behavioral healthcare.

What we’re looking for:

The Research Assistant at the Detroit Recovery Project is a key team member responsible for supporting the organization's addiction recovery research, community engagement initiatives, and program development efforts. This role involves data collection, analysis, and presentation. Also involves collaboration with community partners to advance our mission of promoting recovery and wellness.

Compensation: The starting pay range for this position is $21.63-$22.83 per hour. This is a hourly non-exempt role that is eligible for overtime compensation with prior approval.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
  • Be able to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and take initiative in problem-solving.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse community populations.
  • Be comfortable with standard software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and be willing to learn new systems such as quantitative/qualitative analysis tools and REDCap.
  • Have the flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends based on participant needs outside of typical business hours.
  • Be able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Be willing to travel locally within the Detroit area.
  • Work under the supervision of the Research Manager and/or other senior staff.
  • Conduct participant recruitment, screening, enrollment, and intake procedures for ongoing research studies.
  • Administer surveys and participant interviews in a professional, respectful, and participant-centered manner.
  • Provide basic technical support to participants, including app use and device troubleshooting.
  • Collect, enter, organize, and manage study data using systems such as REDCap and Excel while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely data entry.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date study records, including participant tracking logs and field notes.
  • Identify and resolve inconsistent or incomplete data as appropriate.
  • Support routine tracking and reporting of study progress and metrics.
  • Collaborate with community organizations to support outreach and engagement initiatives.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, presentations, summaries of research findings, and other study-related materials.
  • Support development of study materials, protocols, and participant-facing documents.
  • Contribute to the design and coordination of community workshops and events.
  • Be able to translate complex research findings into layman’s terms.
  • Understand, comply with, and maintain data security, confidentiality, and safety protocols/procedures during field observations.
  • Assist supervisors and senior project staff with additional research, operational, and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with REDCap, SPSS, or similar data collection/analysis software.
  • Support research protocol implementation and quality assurance activities.
  • Exercise independent judgment in managing participant engagement and maintaining data integrity.
  • Possess a basic understanding of Institutional Review Board (IRB) guidelines and demonstrate willingness to learn regulatory compliance procedures.
  • Be able to navigate electronic health record (EHR) databases.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., psychology, sociology, public health, social work, etc.)
  • Some health/behavioral health interest preferred
  • Empathy and sensitivity towards individuals in addiction recovery, coupled with familiarity with addiction recovery programs and resources preferred
