Job description

The YMCA of the Seacoast is seeking Lifeguards and Swim Instructors to join our supportive team creating positive impacts in our community. We offer flexible shifts to meet the needs of your busy schedule! This is an opportunity for leaders looking to build key skills, boost a resume and make a difference in the lives of others. Training and certification provided for new hires not yet certified.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Lifeguards and Swim Instructors must be able to supervise swimmers, minimize dangers, educate members about water safety, enforce rules and regulations, prepare records and reports, and provide assistance whenever needed. Staff have the ability to be trained as either a Lifeguard or Swim Instructor, or both for interested candidates.
Lifeguards provide the safest possible environment for YMCA members and participants in the pool area.
Swim Instructors are responsible for teaching groups of children, ages 3-12years old in basic swimming and water safety skills. Curriculum provided, prior experience swimming or working with children preferred.
Responsibilities:
• Maintain positive and professional relationships with the members and other staff.
  • Understand and apply safety rules and policies for the aquatics area.
  • Conduct and maintain accurate records.
  • Properly dressed and on deck ready to work prior to scheduled start time.
  • Responsible for securing substitutes to cover scheduled shifts in the case of an absence; report coverage to supervisor.
  • Lifeguards adequately react and respond to emergencies or skill audits.
  • Swim Instructors prepare for and conduct swim lessons following Y lesson curriculum.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.

Schedule & Pay:
  • Flexible part-time hours
  • Shifts available weekdays/weekends, mornings, daytimes and evenings.
  • Pay rate: $13.75 - $17.25/hr depending upon experience

Qualifications:
  • Willingness to be trained as either a Lifeguard or Swim Instructor
  • Preferred certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, O2
  • Preferred current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard
  • Ability to maintain or obtain certifications - level of physical and mental readiness
