What is a red wolf?

Red Wolves are a critically endangered species of canid native to the southeastern United States. They are smaller than gray wolves but larger than coyotes, with a reddish-tinted coat that gives them their name. Red Wolves play a vital role in maintaining ecosystem balance by controlling populations of prey animals. Due to habitat loss, hunting, and interbreeding with coyotes, their wild population has drastically declined, and they are now primarily found in protected areas and managed wildlife refuges. Conservation efforts are ongoing to restore and protect this unique species.
