Job description

We are seeking a skilled, quality-driven Pump Mechanic to join our industrial pump refurbishment and rebuild team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnostic teardowns, precision inspection, component evaluation, and the final assembly of industrial pumps (including centrifugal, vertical turbine, split-case, and positive displacement pumps).

Because we operate as a tight-knit, high-efficiency shop team, this role requires a flexible professional who thrives in a cross-functional environment. You won't just focus on a single task all day; you will actively pivot between diagnostic teardowns, precision component cleaning, seal installations, final assembly, and shipping preparation as daily shop priorities shift. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, exact tolerance tracking, a collaborative mindset, and a high level of accountability for the final quality and safety of our products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pump Mechanical Overhaul: Perform complete teardown, inspection, cleaning, part verification, mechanical repair, and final precision assembly of industrial pumps and rotating equipment.
  • Diagnostic Documentation: Document and measure clearances, wear patterns, and part conditions upon teardown to determine necessary rebuild steps.
  • CrossFunctional Teamwork: Dynamically manage and execute multiple tasks throughout the day based on changing shop schedules. Shift seamlessly from meticulous mechanical assembly to staging parts, cleaning components, or prepping units for shipment.
  • Precision Inspection: Use precise measurement tools to verify internal and external clearances against OEM specifications or custom sketch sheets before and after rebuilds.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all rebuilt units undergo proper quality control checks, including shaft alignment, seal testing, and lubrication checks, to deliver a bestinclass product.
  • Technical Skills & Qualification Requirements

    Mechanical & Assembly Proficiency
  • Solid understanding of rotating equipment fundamentals, including bearing fitment, mechanical seal installation, packing adjustments, and shaft alignment.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills to diagnose causes of pump failure (e.g., cavitation, erosion, misalignment, or bearing breakdown).
  • Metrology & Inspection (OD/ID) Skills

  • Must demonstrate proficiency measuring and verifying tight clearances down to ±0.001".
  • Outside Diameter (OD) Tools: Expert use of blade micrometers, vernier calipers, and 16" interchangeable anvil outside micrometers to verify shaft and journal dimensions.
  • Inside Diameter (ID) Tools: Expert use of telescoping gauges (snap gauges), small hole gauges, and dial calipers to evaluate wear ring clearances, casing dimensions, and bearing fits.
  • Shop Mathematics, Blueprints, & Adaptability

  • Ability to interpret complex industrial technical drawings, crosssectional views, exploded parts diagrams, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) symbols.
  • Fluent in standard shop math formulas, including calculating clearances, interference fits, and component dimensions using decimals and fractions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, maintain productivity while switching between mechanical tasks, and keep the overall shop workflow moving.
  • Experience & Education
  • Experience: 2 to 5 years of handson experience as an industrial pump mechanic, millwright, rotating equipment technician, or mechanical assembly technician in an industrial repair environment.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical degree, millwright training, or vocational apprenticeship completion is highly preferred.
  • Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. independently.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and reach for extended periods in a nonclimatecontrolled industrial shop environment.
