Water Safety Instructor

Alper JCC Miami is seeking a dedicated and qualified Water Safety Instructor to join our team. The primary responsibilities include creating a positive learning environment for swim instruction across all age groups. The role involves coaching with a focus on safety, skill development, seasonal planning, daily workouts, goal setting, and promoting both competitive swim and team goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of swim team/lesson members, performing lifesaving and/or first aid procedures when necessary.
  • Enforce team rules, pool rules, and regulations.
  • Provide for the health and safety of participants, ensuring teaching and practice areas are hazard-free and materials/equipment are safe.
  • Conduct swim team workouts and provide instruction to enhance swimming skills and development.
  • Communicate regularly with participants and parents to keep them informed of progress.
  • Perform clerical duties in support of the swim team, including responding to inquiries, creating workouts, taking attendance, and assisting with meet entries.
  • Operate various pool, office, and coaching equipment, including computers and software.
  • Complete records and reports.
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Current certification as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
  • Current Certification in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Preferred certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid.

Position Relationships:

This role involves constant interaction with internal and external stakeholders, and maintaining positive and professional relationships with JCC staff, professionals from related agencies, and the community.

Special Requirements and Physical Demands:

  • Tasks may involve moderate physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials.
  • Extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation may be required.
  • Noise level is mild to moderate.
  • Must be capable of prolonged periods in the pool environment.

Physical Demands:

Instructors must be able to demonstrate and perform all six basic swimming strokes, tread water, and float on front and back. Specific vision abilities are required, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
