Job description

General Statement of Duties / Distinguishing Features of the Class This position is expected to run Memorial Day through Labor Day. Under general supervision, all lifeguards will be responsible for patron surveillance, rule enforcement and emergency response, as well as general cleanup of the aquatic facility. Lifeguard positions are available at 3 levels: Level 1: Lifeguard, formerly "spotter", receives a Red Cross Aquatics Attraction Certification and guards areas of the pool up to 3.5' deep

Level 2: Lifeguard receives a Red Cross Shallow Water Certification and guards all areas of the pool up to 5' deep. Level 3: Lifeguard receives a Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and guards all areas of the pool up to 8.5' deep. Applicants must reach their 15th birthday on or before June 1, 2025

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only) Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services. Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service.

Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility. Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Performs all duties and work assignments in a safe, healthy and environmentally sound manner. Specifically, complying with the Health and Safety Program; maintaining work areas in a safe and orderly manner; identifying and reporting unsafe conditions; reporting all accidents; wearing required personal protective equipment and attending safety-related meetings, training sessions, fit testing, etc. Performs all duties and work assignments in compliance with project quality requirements.

Acts responsibly and ethically, and in conformance with generally accepted business, occupational and professional standards. Performs related work as required. Follows all rules and regulations of Butte-Silver Bow.

Required Experience, Training, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Less than high school with 6 months to 1-year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. CPR Certified; Current certification as Lifeguard by a recognized source of training. If you are not certified Butte-Silver Bow will provide the training to become certified.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques. Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.

Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures. Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends. Required Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Montana. Must be a resident of the City-County of Butte- Silver Bow during employment according to ordinance.
