CLASSIFIED JOB DESCRIPTION
BUS DRIVER
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, to operate a school bus over designated routes to transport school children; to assist in keeping assigned school bus in clean and safe condition; and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
• Drives a school bus daily over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging school children.
• Transports students and teachers on field trips to various locations, following District Policy.
• Inspects bus prior to operation for safety purposes.
• Keeps bus clean and reports mechanical defects.
• Maintains order among school children on buses.
• Follows established district policies and regulations regarding disciplining of children and contact with parents and other citizens.
• Maintains daily records on assigned route and bus operation.
• Observes the courtesy of the road, driving in a safe and prudent manner as determined by road conditions and weather.
• Administers first aid to students.
LICENSE:
• Possession of an appropriate California operator's license issued
by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
• A Standard Red Cross First Aid Certificate and or CHP test equivalent
• A California Highway Patrol permit to operate a school bus.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
• Safe driving practices.
• First aid practices.
• Provisions of the California Motor Vehicles Code and Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in transporting school children.
Ability to:
• Operate a school bus exercising good judgment and safety precautions.
• Maintain order among children on a school bus.
• Learn a designated bus route, bus stops, and District traffic hazards.
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Maintain cooperative relationships with students, parents, and others.
EXPERIENCE:
One year of general driving experience.
EDUCATION:
A High School Diploma or equivalent.
