Position Information
Job Title Assistant Coach (Softball) Nature of Work
Analyzes performance and instructs student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. Recruit student athletes. Observes players while they perform to determine need for individual or team improvement. Coach players individually or in groups, demonstrating techniques.
Examples of Work Performed
Essential Duties:
1. Will serve as the reserve varsity coach to include practice and skill development sessions and will have some responsibilities with the varsity program;
2. Will assist the head coach in scouting, talent assessment and recruiting in order to reach optimal roster numbers;
3. Will help monitor and support the academic success and retention of student-athletes;
4. Will provide training, direction, and encouragement in preparation of student-athletes in teambuilding, team strategy, and sportsmanship;
5. Will analyze player performance and instruct student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition;
6. Will be expected to be a positive role model for student-athletes and have a commitment to the College's mission and values.
Secondary Duties:
1. Will assist in arranging community service activities for team;
2. May plan camps;
3. Will participating in Champions of Character initiatives;
4. Assisting with fundraising;
5. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree plus coaching experience. Must have knowledge of NCAA or NAIA (as applicable) rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to work in an environment where the education, welfare, and graduation of student-athletes receive primary emphasis is strongly preferred. Strong communication, administrative and organizational skills are also strongly preferred.  Prior playing experience is preferred.
