Cypress Creek Hospital is a free-standing 128-bed, acute care psychiatric hospital located in north Houston, TX, and minutes south of The Woodlands. Cypress Creek Hospital features individual units for adolescents and adults and offers inpatient acute care, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. On average, over 10,000 patients receive care from our compassionate health care team each year at Cypress Creek Hospital. As part of the Clinical Services team, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists assist patients in planning and understanding the benefits of recreational activities.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities: 

·         Provides efficient management and understanding of therapeutic recreation activities.

·         Demonstrates knowledge of purposeful interventions, active treatments as it relates to recreation therapy.

·         Effectively assesses the therapeutic recreational needs of patients.

Sets measurable treatment goals as part of the interdisciplinary treatment plan.

·         Plans and facilitates recreational therapy groups as scheduled per unit.

·         Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of patients served.

·         Provides an assortment of leisure activities to develop the understanding of benefits of ongoing health and fitness practices to improve social interaction and improve awareness to health lifestyle.

·         Inventories and utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner. Responsible for maintenance of recreational areas and equipment.

·         Plans and facilitates recreational therapy groups as scheduled per unit.

·         Plans and implements treatment intervention to effectively meet the individualized recreation needs of the patient.

·         Provides written documentation per patient per group daily.

·         Provides appropriate patient education.

·         Effectively assesses and consistently documents the patient’s leisure, social, recreational abilities, and participation.

·         Documents alternative activities for patients.

·         Effectively communicates the patient’s therapeutic recreation needs to the treatment team.
