Department Information

The Recreational Sports mission is to connect, inform, and inspire individuals to lead active, healthy lifestyles. Serving over 36,000 students, faculty, staff, and community members annually, we offer a variety of programs across 2 multipurpose facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, adventure spaces, and more. Our team includes 46 professional staff and over 800 student employees.

Job Summary
The Fitness Attendant plays a key role in creating a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained fitness environment by supporting daily operations within strength and cardio spaces, assisting participants, and ensuring equipment and facilities are clean, organized, and ready for use. This role offers hands-on experience in communication, time management, conflict resolution, and teamwork skills that are transferable to any future career.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization in fitness areas by re-racking weights, reorganizing small equipment, and restocking towels and supplies.
  • Assists participants in the safe and effective use of fitness equipment and workout spaces.
  • Ensures adherence to safety and facility policies when participants are using the strength and cardio spaces.
  • Conducts equipment checks as needed and report maintenance needs to the appropriate team.
  • Responds to accidents or emergencies in accordance with Recreational Sports safety protocols.
  • Stays informed about Recreational Sports programs and services to assist participants and answer questions.
  • Participates in team meetings and training sessions to stay informed and connected.
  • Supports additional tasks and projects as assigned to support the team and improve the facility.
  • Active participation in the RecSports community
  • Dedication to fostering a positive and respectful atmosphere for all.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • General knowledge at the high school level
Preferred
  • Some college
  • Experience in fitness/health-related fields preferred
SKILLS

Working Conditions / Demands
These positions require standing for long periods of time and frequently moving about the workspace. Positions require working both indoors and outdoors and ability to move up to 50 pounds with assistance. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Onsite work will take place at the following campus recreation facilities, depending on the needs of each sporting event:
  • Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC)
  • Bill Garrett Fieldhouse
Advertised Salary
$12.50 per hour
Work Hours
8-12 hours per week
Not to exceed 29 hours per week across all campus positions.
