Job description

JOB OVERVIEW:
The Recreation Aide plays a pivotal role in the execution and facilitation of city recreation programs. Under general supervision, this role assists in planning, implementing, and supervising activities for city recreation programs. Depending on qualifications, the candidate may be placed at Level 1 or Level 2.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing recreation activities.
• Assist in preparing facilities for planned recreation programs, including setting up equipment and ensuring safety of program environments.
• Engage with and oversee program participants, ensuring a positive experience.
• Register participants for programs and handle related administrative tasks.
• Ensure that all program materials and equipment are accounted for and in good condition.
• Collaborate with the Recreation Coordinator or other supervisory staff in program planning and execution.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings, training, and orientations.

Level 2 Additional Responsibilities:
• May serve in a lead role over Level 1 Aides and oversee specific program activities.
• Assist with more complex program planning and implementation.
• Act as a point of contact in the absence of supervisory staff.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or equivalent. Some relevant work experience preferred.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Level 2 Specific Qualifications:
• Additional experience in recreation program facilitation or a related field.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be able to stand for extended periods, move equipment, and engage in physical activity with participants.
• Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
