We are currently looking to fill a Certified Recovery Support Specialistย role at our Merrionette Park Office.

ย SALARY:ย 

  • The average starting salary for this position will fall in the range of $43,000 and $48,000 annually.ย ย 

$2,500 Sign-on Bonus for first-time employees with MFS! ($1,250 on the first paycheck and $1,250 after 6 months of employment).ย ย 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:ย ย 

  • Build trusting, mutual relationships with clients through appropriate self-disclosure of your own recovery journey.ย 
  • Assist clients in accessing services within the CCBHC and externally.ย 
  • Recovery Planning: Helpย clientsย develop Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) andย identifyย personal strengths to drive their treatment.ย ย 
  • Provides information to clients and family members on mental illness, recovery and wellness, treatment options, and resources.ย 
  • Serve as a bridge between the client and the clinical team, ensuring the client's choices define their care process.ย 
  • Partner with localย community-based organizationsย to educate the community on CCBHC services andย facilitateย "warmย hand-offs" into care.ย 
  • Utilizeย de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed supportย withย clients during mental health crises.
  • Documentation:ย Maintainย accurate, HIPAA-compliant records of peer interactions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Assists ย CCBHCย clients and people the client/family identifies as their supports (withย appropriate consent) e.g., significant others, parents, family, caregiver in their understanding the impact of mental health issues/symptoms and achieving the best possible outcomes for themselves/family member.ย 
  • Works collaboratively within a team toย provideย a full range of services includingย mental health, substance use/abuse, physical health, caseย managementย and other social determinants of health support.ย Co-facilitates groups as requested.ย Provides medication monitoring and/or training to clients.
  • Spearheads community support interventions toย facilitateย illness self-management, skill building, identification and use of naturalย supports, and use of community resources.
  • Reviews results of client assessments/screenings and symptom checklists and supports clients when needed to complete symptom checklist.
  • Worksย open accessย as assigned.ย 
  • Conducts outreach and engagement for clients who may not be engaged in care or consistently miss appointments.ย ย 
  • Participates in team meetings,ย andย huddles.ย 
  • Assistsย team inย identifyingย strengthsย and needs of clients.ย 
  • Supports clients when transitioning to another level of care.ย 
  • Maintains awareness of community resources and works to ensure service delivery maximizes available resources and services available within MFS and the community, asย appropriate.ย 
  • Prioritizes activities in collaboration with the supervisor toย optimizeย client service delivery and achieve performance expectations.ย 
  • Recognizesย when to ask for help toย maintainย their own wellness plan.ย 
  • Maximizes opportunities to expand knowledge and skills, andย utilizesย techniques learned.ย 
  • Provides consultation to agency staff and the community, as needed,ย utilizingย expert skills in training, conducting seminars, and working on special projects, as requested.ย 
  • May serve on agency-wide committees and work groups or on community committees, as approved by supervisor and agency leadership.ย 
  • Other duties as assigned.ย ย 

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:ย 

    • Peer/RSS must be an individual who is in recovery and has successfully navigated the MH and/or Substance Abuse system/s for his/herself and/or family member.ย 
    • Peer/RSS must have access to and is comfortable utilizing public transportationย ORย a valid driverโ€™s license, access to a fully insured motor vehicle, proof of insurance and meet MFS driving record criteria.ย 
    • Peer/RSS must pass a State of Illinois background check, as required by MFS policy.ย 
    • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and writtenย form.ย 
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups.ย 
    • Positive attitude and self-motivation.ย 
    • Effective interpersonal skills.ย 
    • Demonstrated good judgment inย maintainingย responsibilities of the position in advocating for the best interest of consumers served.ย 
    • Mustย have basic computer skills

                    QUALIFICATIONS:ย ย 

                    • High school diploma, GED, or above, required.ย 
                    • Personal experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery, required.
                    • Must hold or be eligible to obtain the Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) or Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) credential from the Illinois Certification Board (ICB) within 12 months of hire, required.ย 
                    • Final salary will beย determinedย based on years of experience, licensure level, and relevant credentials.
                    • Bachelorโ€™s Degree, preferred.ย 
                    • Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or experience working with clients experiencing substance use, preferred.ย 
                    • WRAP Facilitator, preferred.

                    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:ย ย 

                    • Satisfactorily pass all relevant screening and criminal background checks.

                    TRANSPORTATION/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:ย ย 

                    • Driving for work required with transportation of clients preferred in a personally owned vehicle. No travel between sitesย ย ย ย 

                    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

                    • While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for sustained periods of time, frequently talk, hear, use hands and fingers to feel, handle and operate objects or controls, and occasionally stand, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing and viewing a computer terminal.
