About the Opportunity

A mission-driven, nonprofit full-service veterinary clinic is seeking a Veterinarian Medical Director to lead clinical operations and support accessible, high-quality veterinary care for companion animals in the Madison, WI area.

This leadership role oversees medical programs including:

  • Surgical Services

  • Primary Care

  • Dental Services

  • Specialty Surgery

  • Community Outreach

The Medical Director will work closely with executive leadership to maintain clinical excellence, support staff development, and help guide operational and strategic initiatives.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide medical leadership and oversight across all clinical programs

  • Supervise, mentor, and support veterinarians and medical staff

  • Ensure high standards of patient care and client communication

  • Collaborate with leadership on operational and financial planning

  • Maintain compliance with medical documentation, safety, and regulatory requirements

  • Support a collaborative, Fear Free, and client-centered culture

  • Assist with program development and continuous quality improvement


Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an accredited institution

  • Active Wisconsin Veterinary License

  • DEA registration and federal accreditation

  • Fear Free Certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months)

  • RECOVER CPR Certified (BLS/ALS)

  • Pain management certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 6 months

  • Minimum 3 years of clinical veterinary experience

  • Leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills

  • High-volume spay/neuter programs

  • Community or access-to-care veterinary practice models
