Reconstructive Microsurgery information
What is the difference between Reconstructive Microsurgery vs Plastic Surgeon?
| Aspect | Reconstructive Microsurgery | Plastic Surgeon |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Medical degree, surgical residency, microsurgery fellowship | Medical degree, surgical residency, plastic surgery certification |
| Work Environment | Hospitals, specialized surgical centers | Hospitals, clinics, private practices |
| Industry Usage | Rebuilding tissues, complex reconstructions | Cosmetic and reconstructive procedures |
Reconstructive Microsurgery is a specialized field focusing on intricate tissue transfer and reconstruction using microsurgical techniques. While all reconstructive microsurgeons are plastic surgeons, not all plastic surgeons perform microsurgery. The two roles share similar credentials and work environments, but reconstructive microsurgery emphasizes complex tissue reconstructions, often for trauma or cancer patients, whereas plastic surgery also includes cosmetic procedures.
