Job Purpose
The machinist will perform a variety of tasks to support the engineering development and daily production of specialized batteries for defense, medical, and space applications. The machinist will perform maintenance on certain production equipment that requires special skills such as the removal, surface grinding, installation, and setup of powder-compaction dies. The machinist will fabricate assembly fixtures and prototype components using a Bridgeport mill, Hardinge lathe, and other shop equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform the daily die change for a hydraulic powder compaction. Maintain dies by cleaning, grinding, honing, and lapping as necessary before re-installation.
  • Maintain, sharpen, troubleshoot, and install other production machine components such as cutting blades and fine blanking dies, and pneumatic solenoid valves as needed.
  • Changeover equipment (e.g. change tools, load electronic recipe, and adjust settings to obtain desired results.)
  • Fabricate plastic and metal components from scratch using machine shop equipment to meet engineering drawing specifications. On the job training can be provided.
  • Develop concepts and sketches for new assembly aids and equipment.
  • Work with engineers to improve the designs of tools, fixtures, and automated equipment. These items may already be in-use on the manufacturing line and present opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform daily cleanup of tooling, equipment, and work area.
  • Follow all safety procedures and report any hazards encountered.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Understands the basics of arithmetic and trigonometry.
  • Competent with hand tools.
  • Solves problems in a methodical way.
  • Pays attention to detail.
