Job description

About San Francisco Bay University:

San Francisco Bay University (SFBU), a nonprofit, WASC-accredited university situated in the heart of Silicon Valley in Fremont, California, seeks innovative and experienced Adjunct Faculty to teach in our online MBA Pro+ program. SFBU’s mission is to offer inclusive, innovative, and inspirational education for lifelong careers, and our vision is to set the standard as a national model of higher education in service of the common good.

At SFBU, students come first. We prioritize students’ needs by fostering personal engagement among students, faculty, and staff. We are committed to providing affordable, quality education with a deep commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

We encourage you to learn more about SFBU by reviewing our strategic plan at https://www.sfbu.edu/strategic-plan.

Position Overview:

Have you ever wondered why higher education feels stuck? Or thought, what if we could rebuild it from the ground up? Imagine a university where leveraging the most sophisticated technological advances is embraced to ensure the best possible learning experiences for students, providing course content that is personalized, flexibly-paced, and deeply connected to real-world needs. A place where we learn across disciplinary boundaries, deliberately practice work through skills that matter, and turn critical ideas into real action.

If you’ve ever dreamed of tearing up the rulebook, of reimagining education in disruptive ways, you might belong here. San Francisco Bay University is embarking on a bold experiment in higher education, and we’re looking for the people who will make it real.

San Francisco Bay University (SFBU), an innovative, nonprofit, WASC-accredited, university situated in the heart of Silicon Valley in Fremont, California, seeks a forward-thinking and experienced Online Adjunct Professor of Business to work hand-in-hand with our proprietary AI technology to oversee the learning experiences of SFBU’s online MBA students. This first-of-it’s-kind MBA is nearing completion and getting ready for launch. We are excited to develop our cadre of online adjunct Business Faculty to facilitate our innovative courses.

Students in the online MBA are guided through personalized and adaptive learning experiences in each course as they progress through real-time interactive discussions with sophisticated and engaging faculty avatars in tandem with you, our online MBA faculty. The avatars have socratic discussions about key course concepts and case studies with each student and provide feedback and guidance for further study. The avatars are available 24 hours, 7 days a week; have an enormous bank of knowledge and experience from which they draw to illustrate concepts, extending the reach and availability of human faculty. The avatars are responsive to students’ individual learning needs, preferences, and potential neurodivergence thereby providing truly personalized education with evidenced-based effective pedagogy.

After each interaction, faculty are provided with assessment recommendations with respect to learning objective mastery for each student to review, validate, and/or provide further feedback. As students complete the course, summative assessment recommendations are provided to the faculty for final grading.

Core Responsibilities:

1. Student Engagement & Community Building

  • Infuse the learning journey with empathy and compassion, building robust professional relationships to guide students through the MBA curriculum.

  • Design and facilitate synchronous and asynchronous opportunities for student connection, including online meetups and guest lectures.

  • Provide responsive, high-touch support for students who are disengaged or require clarification beyond the scope of automated course tools.

2. Academic Coaching & Career Development

  • Offer strategic career coaching to help students clarify and obtain their short- and long-term professional objectives.

  • Conduct bi-weekly 60-minute "open office" seminars to reinforce course concepts and provide real-time mentorship.

3. AI Integration & Assessment Management

  • Regularly train and tune the AI course avatar and curriculum materials to maintain peak pedagogical effectiveness.

  • Review AI-generated assessment data daily, troubleshooting technical or conceptual issues to ensure grading accuracy.

  • Verify final course assessments and manage the formal grading process for the student cohort.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Business, Management, Marketing, Finance, Leadership, or a related discipline.

  • Proven success in delivering asynchronous courses via a Learning Management System (LMS), utilizing best practices in online instruction.

  • Broad-based business knowledge with the ability to provide academic oversight across a diverse range of MBA coursework.

  • Demonstrated experience leveraging Artificial Intelligence as a high-impact pedagogical tool.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to simplify complex concepts and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

  • A documented commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in both educational and professional practice.

Key Competencies for Success
  • Maintains a calm, professional demeanor when navigating technical challenges or student concerns.

  • Ability to quickly adapt to and refine emerging AI technologies.

  • A genuine passion for mentoring and a "white-glove" approach to student service.

Working Conditions
  • Primarily remote/online environment.

  • Requires attendance at two 60-minute synchronous evening sessions per week.

  • Daily monitoring of AI systems and student inquiries is required to meet responsiveness standards.

Salary- $7,300.80 for each 8 week course

Application Materials:

Interested candidates must submit the following application materials:

  • Applications will be reviewed beginning immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Join us in our mission to provide innovative, inclusive, and transformative education, and help us shape the future of higher education in the heart of Silicon Valley. We look forward to welcoming a passionate Professor of Practice to our academic community.
